I have the same background on one of my lappies but the icons need a lot more themeing before that desktop can be considered Steampunk!

I know, but I don't know how.

Ah!

You can change the image displayed by some of the icons by right clicking on the desktop and selecting "manage desktop icons". You can then select the images of certain default icons and replace them with your own.

On ordinary desktop icons for standard programs you can right click and select properties, there should be a change icon option. All you need to do is to find some good and suitable steampunk icons, download them, put them in accessible folder and select them from there.

Type "steampunk your desktop" into Google that'll help.

I use Rocketdock instead of the windows taskbar (which has always been a bit rubbish) then I hide the taskbar at the top of the screen so it is there if I really need it. Then I can skin Rocketdock how I like using any PNG icon that suits my fancy.

Mydesktop is maturing with some dieselpunk elements that may go onto form a whole new theme.

Right click and select view image to see a larger version.

The widgets now has stopwatch functionality as well as being a dual time clock. Dynamic resizing using the mouse scrollwheel. Hope you like it.

This the Xwidget version that requires the Xwidget engine.

You can get it here: http://rocketdock.com/addon/icons/47315

Just a trial version of my old steampunk volume widget - dieselpunk in form. This is just an image - no more - the widget has been built but it is not here yet. It will be an Xwidget when completed.

All brass removed, sound horn replaced with electric speakers, mounted on a cream bakelite plastic base. Added a handle for the slider and removed any Victorian embellishments. A simplification as it were, an upgrade to more up-to-date technologies and a reduction in the quality of the components.

The brass version worked well against a dark or light background but the dieselpunk version was less suitable for dark desktops so I have given it a light-coloured base to make it stand out bette

You can get it here:

It is almost exactly the same in functionality as the Xwidget version.

This is what I am doing now, my Panzer clock and stopwatch widget. Dieselpunk in nature, more than steampunk but it it still has steampunk overtones.

It sits on your desktop underneath your windows, discreetly telling the time. It can be resized and placed where you want. It is also brand new and so there will be a few bugs... I'll fix them as you raise them and I find them.

This Panzer Widget (Yahoo widget version) can be downloaded here (the Xwidget version coming soon):

http://yereverluvinuncleber.deviantart.com/art/Panzer-Clock-and-Stopwatch-Yahoo-Widget-593080482

They are all free and open source, they need an engine to run. The yahoo widget engine and SDK is here: http://desktopwidgets.zenfs.com/4.5.2x10a50/ywidgets_sdk_setup.exe

This shows the widget sized large, on a tank-themed desktop.

This shows the widget help page.

This shows the widget about us image,

Full instructions for the Panzer widget are here:

http://lightquick.co.uk/instructions-for-the-panzer-clock-widget.html

I've created an Xwidget version here for those that prefer the Xwidget engine. It is identical in operation, it has just been coded to work with a different engine.

http://yereverluvinuncleber.deviantart.com/art/Panzer-Clock-and-Stopwatch-XWidget-593451692

I've also created a set of icons to accompany this widget.

Provided in the following formats:
This Windows ICO file, MAC, ICNS and finder, PNG icon file are all eminently usable on windows/ Mac OS/X / Linux &c.

There is a PNG enclosed that is larger and has more detail so that you can resize if you wish or use "as-is".
The .ICO file is delivered in 256, 128, 64, 48, 32 and 16 byte formats.
The .ICNS file is available for Mac OS/X
The .HQX file is available for Mac OS/X finder.
The .BMP file is available for Blackbox Desktop and any o/ses that use bitmap icons.

You can get the lot here:
