I didn't ever think to go to the Met for gun design ideas:

This one steampunk'd before steampunk punked...

These are pretty dang 'stylin'...

A little flavor for the air pirate in us all...

I'm coming so CLOSE to a design ...
I can feel it in the back of my mind's eye when I wake up...

I'm almost there.

SO I'm searching the net for shapes
(I can almost see it)
but also need a touch of history...

does that make sense at ALL??

Then I'll have to find someone with tools
since the last ex relieved me of all my possessions
I've never replaced them.

Dremel is the first on my list.

There's a really bad taste comment about guns and the 'Met' (as in the Metropolitan Police) I could make here but it may stir up a hornets nest of offence ...so I won't.

However..that first one is, as I believe the youth of today would put it, 'freakin' awesome'.

Those are awesome!

Near where I live here in Wisconsin we have a unusual home called the House on the Rock...
There are several areas in the house that showcase guns and "steamy" things....

Imagine a room filled with collected pipes from pipe organs from around the world mixed
with antique brewer's vats and copper kettles.... It is a awesome room!

Anyway... Mr. Cujo get to the point....

A sample of their gun room collection.... I'll post more if I can find them on my computer....

WOW

What is it when boys design guns
that 'more is better' LOL

Although
I think few appreciate
the satisfaction one gets
from the 'bang' of a cap & ball round....

I imagine all of those going off at once
and the shooter flying back
Like in Men In Black
when 'J' shoots 'The Cricket'.... LOL

Cujo,
I've been wanting to visit the House on the Rock since reading "American Gods" by Neil Gaiman a few years ago (a big important chunk of the story takes place there). Thank you for posting the pictures, it looks like more of an amazing place than I thought. If I ever finally get around to roadtripping the states I'm definitely making it one of my stops.

Around every turn there is another.... "Holy Crap"   There is a TON of stuff to see there....
Then I walked into the men's room... and the walls had MORE guns on display.... (Women's restroom had glass and pottery- and yes I went and looked  Grin )

I personally skipped the dollhouse maze... and skipped over the Circus collection mostly....

And I am not thread stealing....it really is a fascinating place.... we spent almost an entire day there.....

Indeed, perhaps a topic best left to it's own thread.
Barb, those guns are quite impressive. I'm equally as enamored with the power of the interwebs

Miss Barb, the picture of the Catherine The Great flintlock pistols with ivory stocks causes me furiously to think...REAL Ivory is illegal, FOSSIL ivory outside my budget, but there's a substance called ivory Micarta that looks like the real thing and is fairly inexpensive.
And I've been looking at an excuse to try scrimshaw.....

Barb i've been studying weaponry in general and firearms specifically for 25 years now. I have handled everything from original matched Tower of London horse pistols to a 1500s wheellock in it's original armory rack, the wide variety of automatic weaponry from submachine guns and machine guns up to a firing run with an M134 minigun and a few small cannon.

If you ever need pics, I've visited a great number of European museums including smaller ones with oddities the big ones don't see sometimes. Just ask, i may have a pic of it or something like it at least in the general category. If not, i can generally tell you a lot about the where's why's and hows of any class of weapon from matchlock up.

Kewel!

I did some drawings yesterday
and it looked
like someone had run through
a scrap metal yard
carrying a strong magnet.

I have never been successful when 'sketching'.

Am going out today
*school supplies*
so I'll have a look in the toy department
and browse through the hardware.
Maybe there'll be time
to hit BOTH the second hand stores in town.

Maybe something will ... make a spark.

Roll Eyes  I know. Sorry pun.

I'd just like to say these are some of the most ridiculous pepperbox pistols I've ever seen. Particularly the top one lol. I don't think even Final Fantasy has managed to exceed that level of ludicrous!

But I like 'em.  Cheesy

I think you joined after I posted this, but you might like it. This is a repeating siege gun designed by Leonardo daVinci. It's in the museum of the Doge's Palace in Venice Italy

When I was in art college,
Leo was my artist -
I was gathering documentation
on him even way beck in the seventies.

Does the whole device turn, or does that hammer turn?
Or does the hole thing go at once?

There was a piece at the Cody gun museum -

China 'way back whenever'
531, or something didn't even have four
numbers in the date yet -
shot like six rounds at once-
and looked like a pitchfork of tubes.

The idea was
to slam the handle against something
really hard.

LOL!

I believe the barrel can be unlocked and turned, it is not automatic, just faster than reloading

If we lived in a Steampunk world....I'd become bored and become Renaissancepunk...too long...I need to work on that name.  I'd say DaVincipunk, but I am more a Botticelli guy.  I will just settle for Steampunk with Renaissance tastes.

Philadelphia has a decent collection, not as amazing as the Met, but still a sight to see.
