Got my original rocket pack from exhibition recently and as with most steampunk things I build and then keep for longer than ten minutes - I don't like it anymore.

So I will strip it all back to the base backpack frame and build myself a new steamier rocket pack.

Nice to have a summer project.

And I didn't think much of August 4th.

This thread simulates rocket pack performance - takes off in any untoward direction without notice.

May as well add my contribution:  "The Trench Hopper," designed for short hops across a trench line.  I used Monster Energy cans, a broken umbrella, and scrap canvas and leather.

I captured it from the Germans..... Grin

My only WIP pic sadly:

Hullo all you rocketeers

Just found this today at an antique, vintage and collectors fair, please note the bargain price of just ten, that's right, only ten of your fine english crisp pund notes, seen similar on auction sites for as much as £70!!

If we include, perhaps a pair of these

And the frame from this

I believe we have the beginnings of an emergency escape rocket pack?

welcome to the collective.  Looking forward to your build.

Many thanks,

I'm fairly new to tinkering, so it may take a while, but in sure it'll all work out in the end!  Tallyho!

Here are a couple of photos.  The first is of the rocket pack itself in its stand.

Then a close up of yours truly.

And now several in flight.  It is a blast!  Lots of fun.  Total flight time about 20 minutes.

And finally a little walking on water.

Note the position of the nozzles.  They are rather high, much higher than in the steampunk rocket packs, I and others have built.  Locating the nozzles above the center of gravity makes for a very stable system.  Something to keep in mind during your next rocket pack build.

Thank you, Mr. Maets.

The inclusion of actual, sound engineering design advice in this thread has just made me smile a lot.

Me too  Grin

That looks like great fun. I shall show my boy later and then spend the rest of the week being nagged to have a go on one...

Anyway, I thought I'd drop a pic of the revamp I did on Katie the Rocket Powered Fairy Pirate's rocket pack. I added new wings, rewired the whole thing, modified the bubble blower to make it more reliable and changed the straps to make it more comfortable to wear. Naturally she hates it  Grin
