Solutions do not need Problems

« on: February 08, 2011, 03:03:49 am »

At a recent antique show I perused, I saw several beautiful examples of "secretaries" or portable writing desks.
I have Yahoo-ed, Googled and Binged, but have no luck finding plans to build one.

Does anyone know of any plans for making a portable writing desk, AKA a secretary?

Google shows us some nice pictures of a portable writing desk. (Don't google on secretary without the family filter on, I just did.  Embarrassed)

As for plans. I haven't got a clue. I guess nowadays people don't have the need for a portable writing desk. We have laptops now and those tv-dinner-desk-thingies with polystyrene filled pillows underneath.
You could start with a flat wooden box or case and put some screw-on legs underneath.

At lest in the UK they are more usually called "Writing Slope's" antique writing slope will bring up some lovely brass and walnut boxes. Its often looked to me that a Netbook/tablet would fit in one quite simply.Damaged ones are quite cheap too.
