Has anyone else read "The Shroud of the Thwacker" by Chris Elliott?  I found it quite funny and totally steampunk.  Its set in 1882 New York, but has anachronistic technology like steampowered cell phones.  The story is murder-mystery-sci-fi-parody.

If you've read it, what did you think?

Steam-powered cell phones? Like with smoke signals? Sounds awesome in any event.

Actually I read about this a while back on Cory's site I think. Chris Elliot didn't realize that Boilerplate was fictional, and included him in the story somewhere as a face-value historical figure.
