How about a 91 yr old Hungarian grandmother named Mrs Frederika Goldberger?  Maybe not entirely steam, but she's got a helmet and ray gun blaster pretty similar to many creations on BG.  markf

Tasha Tudor the illustrator of children's books.  Lived a very quiet Victorian life on a farm where she did everything by hand!  She died earlier this year I believe.
