A message from Spacedog:

The UK Steampunk fraternity* might be interested in a piece on Radio 4 this Saturday (10:30am BST  - but also check it out on ListenAgain).

I'll be lounging in Queen Victoria's Bedroom, at the heart of the Brighton Pavilion, talking to Steve Punt who is searching for the truth behind a recording, alleged to be the lost voice of Queen Victoria. You'll also hear me putting an Edison Standard Phonograph through its paces as I record Steve's voice on wax.

If this takes your fancy, you might also like to check out a couple of live events where I'll be demonstrating wax recording and exploring early obsessions with capturing the voices of the dead. At Fear and Loathing in Newcastle (22 October) and the Last Tuesday Society , London (10 December).

Hope you find 'em riveting.

PS If Any of you are at the Steampunk Hidden Underworld in Brighton on Saturday night, you might catch me there early, trying out a couple of new numbers with my robot pals.

*I have a feeling you can't access BBC broadcasts online if you're outside the UK. But if you know otherwise, do tell.

Wouldn't it be great if Queen Victoria sounded like Beryl Reid..like the Queen Mother did on Spitting Image! Grin

I think I'll check that out on Saturday.

Hello

If you're in the UK, you can hear the Queen Victoria (allegedly) herself on Listen Again:
