They do, and about the same price as the ones over here. They don't seem to ship to New Zealand though, which is a shame because they've got the buttons I need too.

I got sick of trying to find somewhere that would send a couple of buttons over here without charging the earth so made my own from some button blanks and 3D scrapbooking letters (there's a scrapbook shop across the road from my house). I was pissed off that they didn't look authentic then thought "hmm, Confederate airship pilot... they'll probably do". A couple of coats of varnish and I reckon they'll do the job.

People just don't ship here. Tis mightily annoying.

Buttons look cool though. And I definitely agree, they'll do just fine.

oh plenty people will, but the best deal I found was 0.40 USD each for the buttons, with 35 USD for post!

Tell them where to stick it. You can find out basic shipping rates on the USPS website. Small packages shouldn't be anywhere NEAR that much. Hell, buttons fit just fine in a padded envelope. Should be mroe like US$6 or so..

I can appreciate companys wanting a bit extra to cover the inconvenience of sending just a couple of buttons, but they all seemed to want to take my eyes out. I was prepared to pay around $20 to get my two buttons, but not that much.

It's shame, because there's a lot of stuff I would be buying from those suppliers when I've got the cash (I've got none at the minute on account of nappies, baby-sized dress-up costumes and the like) but I'm reluctant now.

Compare that with flags-georgia.com. They sent me a couple of dozen confederate flag patches and charged $4 for shipping. That's much more like it.

Ow sore fingers. I hate needlework, but the jacket's finally done. Also, I hadn't realised how much actual effect the fur collar would have on the jacket's thermal capabilities; with the way the weather's improving here I'm in for one hot halloween night!

Next I'm going to replace the beret. I liked the airborne maroon, but I've decided to go for grey (for old times' sake) with a battle flag. Grey gloves too.

Man I hate sewing. I've now sewn one of the patches on twice and it still doesn't look right. My wife even had the nerve to say "it's only a costume!" a minute ago. I've finished sewing the patch on the beret, now I've just got to do the buttons (which will be easy enough) then go around redoing all the seams I've had to open to replace the zip and stuff.

Am very much looking forward to seeing the finished deal!  I particularly like the gun and holster!

Love the idea, and love what I'm seeing so far.

Jacket's done finally. Well, I might just add one more badge to the right breast. I've replaced the zip, which I didn't think period-appropriate, with magnetic fasteners, which probably aren't either but look way cooler. And I 've sewn my fake buttons on.

I'm pleased with the beret but now i've got a problem; when I first started it was just going to be a generic aviator outfit so I was going to use khaki shirt and pants that I already had. Now the beret looks so good I'm going to have to buy grey ones.

Done I reckon

Shots of the hardware;

In our house it's pretty tricky to get a photo without a dog in it...

The full shebang...

...and finally a close-up of the wrist-thermo-compass-watch

That'll do for now. I'll try and post better pics when I can find someone to take them for me! (I had to do all those on self-timer)

you know this is a fun build to look at. i am right now writing a story which takes place dirrectly after the "great war" which lasted 13 years from 1860 to 1873, in my story the southern confederated labor union started the war by attempting to asassinate lincoln.

anyhoo it basically explodes and by the time it is over there is a 1200 mile trench from the oklahoma territory to the coast of north carolina and everyone from spain to england is tromping around the american south west enthralled in a war that stands in as the american civil, the spanish american, the austro prussian and ww1.

fun right... so anyhow the confederated labor states made a pact with italy and started carpet bombing the trenches with italian made airships, which is where my story picks up, as a shipping baron travells to italy to purchase airships.
as i write i keep 'flashing back' to certain facts of the war and as i find myself doing so i am describing the soldiers and equipment in greater and greater detail.
your uniform there just might stand in as a model for my confederated labor airship crews...

Looking sharp!  I wish that I had thought of something half as cool first.  But.....

If 21st century Cavalry still insist on wearing sabres, spurs, and Stetson hats how would a 19th century Cavalryman resisted?   Wink
