Interested in creating massive fireballs with the power of your brain? Who knew that Pyrokinesis could be so easy... Or enlisting several compatriots in activating a giant mechanical Heart and igniting 20' fireballs ascending into the night?
Site 3 CoLaboratory will be on hand Saturday night to fill the skies with fiery awesomeness!

Hmmm, breaking a leg is merely an excuse to make a steampunk leg brace. Good luck!
It is starting to get like Around The World in Eighty Cons, more and more conventions and convivials popping up daily.

We are very pleased to announce that "Murdoch Mysteries" author Maureen Jennings will be joining us at the Canadian National Steampunk Exhibition to speak about her work and to do a book signing! We are all very excited about this news... "Her Detective William Murdoch novels, set in 19th century Toronto, have been made... into a Gemini-Award winning television series now in its fourth season and broadcast in over 80 countries.." We are currently in discussions with a large book retailer that will have copies of Ms. Jennings books available for sale, as well as many other fine steampunk titles. Take a moment to peruse her website and titles: http://www.maureenjennings.com/ http://www.murdochmysteries.com/More exciting guest and performer news is just around the corner... Give yourself and a friend a great holiday gift and register now for the CNSE! Remember that early bird prices end January 31st. http://www.cnse.ca/feesandregistration.htm

We are both fans of the books and shows so this is another great reason to attend (as if we needed one!) Indeed we have been trying to sort air tickets this very week.
Looking forward to it.

More exciting guest and performer news! Joining us will be noted steampunk photographer Lex Machina ( http://www.lexmachinaphoto.com/). Lex will be our Official Exhibition Photographer of Record. Besides recording our event for prosperity, Lex will have a table at which you may purchase her work or commission her services. The CNSE will also be host to a screening of the award-winning Steampunk film “Nickel Children” ( http://nickelchildren.eslingerfilm.com/). Producer Mary Katherine Sisco and Writer/Director Kevin Eslinger will be on hand for a Q&A panel to discuss the film itself, the film's life from pre-production through its marketing as well as steampunk elements found in film. Shakti Fusion Belly Dance ( http://shaktifusion.ca/) will be performing Friday night to usher in our “Sideshow Social”. Several dancers will perform “vintage bellydance” or “streampunk bellydance” in short cabaret-style vinettes. Noted steampunk found-object sculptor and artist Russell Zeid will also be joining us with a display of his work and to talk about his art and work with the Ontario Science Centre as a display designer and builder. Russell in recent years oversaw the refurnishing of the Centre's collection of ten Rowland Emett kinetic creations ( http://www.ontariosciencecentre.ca/calendar/default.asp?eventid=818&ddmmyyyy=22012010), the largest single collection of Emett pieces in the world. And last but certainly not least in this week's guest announcements, we are extremely pleased to welcome concept artist Meinert Hansen ( http://fictionscience.com/ ). Meinert's artistic credits include “Across the Universe”, “The Spiderwick Chronicles”, “The Secret Adventures of Jules Verne”, “300” and many other productions. We will exhibiting pieces from Meinert's personal project “Captain Nemo's Photographer” ( http://utamoh.wordpress.com/). We will also be offering a three-hour intensive computer graphics art workshop with Mr. Hansen, focusing on the steampunk style and aesthetic. We are extremely happy to be able to offer this workshop as an additional fee event for the incredibly low price of $20, to be tentatively held from 10am to 1pm on the Sunday of the weekend. Attendance will be capped at 30, and membership at the Exhibition will not be required. Details and registration information for this workshop will be available in the new year. One final bit of news... Steampunk Canada will be hosting a room party at FUTURECON ( http://futurecon.wordpress.com/), the best New Years Eve party this side of the Great Divide! As part of the festivities ( http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=155532397818668), we will be raffling a pair of Full Weekend memberships for the CNSE as well as a steampunked NERF N-Strike Reflex IX-1, modified by Sword in the Stone Crafts (i.e., me!), complete with a leather holster. Other door prizes will happen through the evening... hope to see you there! More guest and performer news to come soon!

A very special message from the Exhibition Chair - Adam Smith! A holiday gift... some of the most exciting guest and performer news yet! Actress and YA steampunk author Adrienne Kress will be joining us to speak about her work and the state of steampunk literature, as well as attending a book signing. “ALEX AND THE IRONIC GENTLEMAN author Adrienne Kress's Young Adult debut THE FRIDAY SOCIETY, in which the lives of three intelligent and very talented young women, all of whom are assistants to very powerful men, become inextricably linked by a chance encounter and a murder, to Nancy Conescu at Dutton, for publication in 2012, by Jessica Regel at Jean V. Naggar Literary Agency (world).” Learn more about Adrienne at her website http://www.adriennekress.com/author.html and blog: http://ididntchoosethis.blogspot.com/.Also appearing will be Nancy Overbury. Nancy's blog “Overbury Ink” ( http://overburyink.com/) explores the art, design and writing of our emerging genre: Fighting Trousers - Professor Elemental). “Good Taste is Elemental. The Genius mind behind Gentleman Rhyming and or Chap Hop if u will. With songs detailing his deep love for tea and the blending of animals and ice cream , and his distaste for Mr.B's obvious biting of his style just to name a few. It's a good time for all!” Besides his usual brand of tea-driven lunacy, Elemental may be able to offer an off-site Rap Workshop during his stay in Canada: “...using a wholly inclusive approach I can get anyone writing, performing and recording a rap.” Learn more about the good Professor at his website: http://www.professorelemental.com/And lastly, don't forget Steampunk Canada will be hosting a room party at FUTURECON ( http://futurecon.wordpress.com/), the best New Years Eve party this side of the Great Divide! Other door prizes will happen through the evening... bring some pocket change for the raffles, and hope to see you there! Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas, and a Prosperous New Year to All!
