Shàlle We Dànce?

« on: June 02, 2010, 09:17:15 pm »

This was started more or less as an alternate timeline of the HMAS Badger rp, for an idea that might not have worked out in the regular game.

New players are welcome. Feel free to post character descriptions here if you have them (they aren't required though).

History/back story:Trilidian Belt (Oort Cloud) miner; has been around for a very long time, perhaps as long as 40 years. apparently participated in developing first resonance weaponry; the Jaguarundiserved as a test bed for a ship-sized vesrioin, but with a rather odd ebnergy source for the rather hugew weapon, which actually forms the backbone of the vessel - literally. Was Captain during last major system-wide conflict , and destroyed a large battleship with the test wepon, which is still onboard and still operational, thiough customs has had little luchk in determining where it is, for some reason.
Weaponry/Preferred weapons and/or equipment: revolver, cutlass, portable gatling, homemade portable rotary railgun; also ship's mining implements (plasmic lasers and tractor beams) as well as the resonance weapon.
Vehicle/transport (if any, includes pocket or hand-held teleporters/time-space machines):HMAMS Jaguarundi

----------------

Species:Moon Dragon
Description:Old Moon-Dragon; silvery scales, age-tatters and darkening around ends of ear-frills; somewhat large for the ship he's on, but moves about it with the ease of long familiarity.
History/back story: Old Healer Moon Dragon, even older (MUCH MUCH older) than Cal. No one really knows how old. He was already ancient when the first anti-Drene-vah purges took place many years ago; sometimes thought to be renegade Droku (shamans of the Moon Dragons)
Gender: M
Weaponry/Preferred weapons and/or equipment:Plasma Rifle;Kirva (khukhuri-like sword)

Female
Species:Moon Dragon
Occupation:Warrior; Hunter of Drene-Vah; might become Jack Pulksifer's Dragon companion.
Description:silvery-white like most moon dragons, but somewhat darker, also very, very small-bodied in comparison to the Trooper Dragons of the Dragon Corps (hence her name). History/back story:Younger sister was killed in her sleep by Shi Markia, a Sorceress of the Drene-Vah, via telepathic attack or "mind-ripping" as the skill was/is called. Has hunted Shi Markia and all Drene-vah ever since.
Weaponry/Preferred weapons and/or equipment:khukhuri; kirva; yataghan
Vehicle/transport (if any, includes pocket or hand-held teleporters/time-space machines):Own wings, like all dragons; the Beau Rosin
Temperament: Mercurial, but has a soft spot for Jack, somewhat inexplicably (most moondragons have a soft spot for one certain human, who often becomes their "companion"), due to her mercurial nature and Jack's general 'cussedness.'

-------------------
Character Name:Captain Jack (Mad Jack) Pulsifer
Male
Species:Human
Occupation:Airship/Timeship captain, RTAF Beau Rosin
Description: late 40's; tall, lanky, giant handlebar moustache
History/back story: World's Most Wanted Man in numerous Times and Dimensions. Originally a Mercenary with the Bayou Marauders Mercenary Company in a different universe than that of the Mad Badger; in his home universe, Jack survived a fight in which the MWBailey of that universe died and Jack was spared; the opposite is true in the Badger's universe. Also, Jack was so insubordinate and hard to get along with that those few friends he managed to keep arranged with the rest of teh Mercenary company foir him to be assigned to a one-man command. It was almost a joke, and many laughed at the idea and the perfect solution found for getting rid of the man. but then he was assigned to seek and destroy the Mexican first-rate La Trinidada de Vera Cruz -- and he did so, managing to down both the larger battlewagon and the supply ships (all 3 of them) that she was escorting at the time. He followed that victory with a long string of over 40 more, and became the most feared patrol on the Cimarron border.

Retiring from the Mercenary life (more or less) after the disbanding of the Marauders, he drifted to china during whch time the time travelling device was firstalled on his shiip on an experimental basis.

In Shanghai his airship was commandeered by his old comrade Jaisen S. Dreyfuss, now a commodore liasoned to the British secret service and on a mission to rescue the kidnapped son of a British peer. the pirates who had done the kidnapping had stolen Dreyfuss' ship, the St. Elmo, and Dreyfuss commandeered Jack's ship just as Jack awoke, looked out the window of his hotel room, and saw the Beau Rosin departing (!). He gave chase on a hastily-acquired horse, and after catching up and reclaiming his ship, helped Dreyfuss and his crew destroy the remaineder of the pirate fleet. A freak storm then blew up, transported him and teh Beau Rosin to another dimension, and then another blew up after he had distinguished himself in that dimension, and blew himself and his time-travelling airship to the New Purgatory Asteroid Station in the Badger's dimension. He had the Beau refitted to match the norms in the Badger's universe, and became embroiled in the Badger's affairs when he heard that Bailey had been kidnapped, and offered his ship and services.
Weaponry/Preferred weapons and/or equipment:Ships weapons;1896 Mauser Self-loading pistol; model 1867 Naval/cavalry saber; Colt Walker .44 Caliber Cap & Ball Revolver; Thaumic Blaster (caution, blaster is catastrophically powerful).

Temperament:Cantankerous, suspicious of new acquaintances, but afterward friendly to a fault.
type of role: good

-------------------
Character Name:MWBrantley
M
Species:Human/Cthuloid

Vehicle/transport (if any, includes pocket or hand-held teleporters/time-space machines):Chronojumper miniaturized to fit in gold-and-gator-skin cigarette case;A.U.N.T.S.A.L.L.I. blackbox travelling device; RTAF Beau Rosin when he can commandeer it.
Temperament: Mercurial, and sometimes homicidally so, in teh cthuloid mode.
type of role: timetravelling antihero/cop

-------------------
Character Name: Miss Sally
F
Species: Altered Human/Astro-Faerie
Occupation:Head of A.U.N.T.S.A.L.L.I. temporal/Dimensional regulatory agency; Brantley's immediate boss.
Description:petite, near-perfect figure, pointed ears, shimmering gold-blonde hair.
History/back story:
Weaponry/Preferred weapons and/or equipment:Unknown for certain as of yet; rumored to be Martial Arts Master; is known to work out with a very heavy scimitar-like sword. Is able, apparently , to move from dimension to dimension, timeto-time at wioll, without  aid of travelling device (a myth, she's just very good at hiding it).
Vehicle/transport (if any, includes pocket or hand-held teleporters/time-space machines):as-yet-unseen pocket device similar to Brantley's cigarette case. rumored to be a gold compact.
Temperament:
type of role (good/ evil/undecided/antihero/middle-of-road):

Seems ok to me; I've had a moderate block as well.

I'll try to come up with a reasonable explanation of what thoise terms mean that you weren't sure of.

I'll be gone all of the AM on saturday, and part of the afternoon; they finally got in touch with us, and the recording session's tomorrow. Tell me to break a leg, somebody! (I'm playing the fife on Come to the Bower and a few other period tunes).

Anyhow, I'll post on Saturday evening.

Should jack volunteer to help with the Andromeda device?  And I hope I didnt take too many liberties with Sally and her regulatory efforts...

Now, that's a nice ensemble. I like the hat, and what looks from this angle like a shell jacket; tails or not, it sets the whole thing off. A rapier or other blade, or maybe a homemade blaster, or your new character's pistol, could possibly be a plus (but the pic's nice like it is).

Thanks Smiley

Good ideas, I might work on something like that...

The hat used to look a bit different, I pinned it up that way with some old mismatched earrings.

this coming Friday through Sunday AM, I shall be in San Antonio, Texas, performing with teh Texas Dulcimers at the Annual Texas Folklife Festival. I will thus be unable to post (even if the hotel has an internet cafe or some such, I'll probably be too exhausted in the evenings to post, from playing banjo, fife, and flute (well...two kinds of banjo, openback modern and tackhead minstrel). Not to mention  walking there and back, and walking all over the festival grounds.

I should be back here posting either latenight Sunday or sometime on Monday.

------------
Now, lets see if I can totally mess up figure out a suitable outcome for the Beau and jack, etc. This will include events in Brantley's/Miss Sally's home multiverse (which is also jack's home multiverse) as well. A timewar might even be in the offing...

*cue the creepy interlude music*

I'M BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACCCKKKK....

Lots of fun jamming and performing with my fellow Oldtime Music folks, Irish/scottish folks, and watching the belly dancersenjoying the folk dance presentations.

I'm not planning to bring in the St. Elmo, but Brantley IS going to make sure that the dimension-hopping Airwise University is secure and in the proper hands.

I might not get to that and Jack's attempts to trace miss Voltaire, though, til tomorrow; I'm pretty much bushed right now. The drive home from San Antone was grueling...

Sorry the story isn't making much sense. Tongue I've been busier at work recently, and trying to get to bed at a more normal hour. I really enjoy writing with you, and I hope I haven't gone off on too many odd tangents here. (I'm thinking I might edit a few of my posts, some of my stuff might not really work out.)

I might not have the time to write as much as I have been, and I'll try to post soon, but I don't want to end up messing things up or writing into corners.

I really appreciate the time and care you're taking on this. I'd hate for you to get burnt out, because of this RP, however. Please pace and take care of yourself. Maybe Theo will be back soon (i haven't heard anything).

Not sure about Jim (Nightshade); he got himself banned for the sock puppet thing he did in metaclubs. I'm not sure what he was trying to accomplish, but I'm fairly certain that wasn't it.The DocDodger persona might be him, or might not. I'm not certain yet.

One thing I forgot to put in an earlier post is that the Organization's people at the base are wearing different uniforms, of the same or similar military design, but dark blue instead of green. This would have been one of the things Tobias told the advance party when he returned from scouting.

I was thinking Tobias's 'country' would be the United States, however I'm not sure if/how that fits into the story setting, and now that I'm thinking about it, I'm not entirely sure if New Mexico as a state fits either. If it doesn't work I can change it. (New Mexico was kind of picked at random anyway, Los Alamos was a bit of a coincidence that I realized afterward.)

The base is in the Badger's dimension, and in the re-written timeline. I had originally intended for it not to be, but realized that the plans I came up with would make more sense to have it in the same dimension. (And I'm also kind of trying not to use the different dimensions idea too much, if it isn't really necessary.)

(The reason for the Stormwind's weapons not working could be that the aetheric pressure is naturally higher near the equator, due to a less powerful magnetic feild farther away from the poles, and/or that because of the time difference in the solar and aetheric cycles, the aetheric pressure on earth is somewhat higher in 1890 than in 1931)

All good ideas and perfectly understandable; Los Alamos from our real world would have to be sort of a 'universal (multiversal?) constant,' in my opinion. It would have to exist in some form or other, on nearly every plane, simply because of the sheer power of the energy buildups and releases that occured at and around it. Not only the A Bomb but also the early theoretical and first-prototypal experiments that eventually led to the H Bomb were developed there. Seems reasonable to me that the powerful explosions would have affected spacetime itself, so Los Alamos itself would be most likely OK.

Whether or not the US would exist is kind of a vexed question; in Jack's home dimension, the Republic of Texas is a sort of miniature world power, and Louisiana is an empire that stretches across the continent from the Gulf of Mexico to Canada (The Great Lakes), and is a constant squabbler with and sometime mortal enemy of the Republic. The United States in that dimension are confined mostly to the eastern seaboard until (by treaty) approx 1920 or so, if I remember correctly. All of this about Texas, Louisiana and the US is mentioned in various places in the two Steam London RPs, which is where the 'RTAF' that Jack and the Beau belonged to came from. Thus, in the Badger's dimension, it's probably OK for the US to exist, though probably with differences.

Aetheric pressure affecting aetherically-active weaponry and instrumentation also stands to reason, in my view.

Los Alamos being a dimensional 'constant' makes a lot of sense.

Not really sure yet about the US, and states, borders, ect.

I was thinking that the nuclear devices used in 1931 would leave very little radioactive contamination compared to real devices, since they use a relatively small amount of radioactive material. Maybe the use of the early nukes created contaminated zones somewhere in the US, or nearby, so building devices that left less contamination became a bigger goal.
