Behold, the latest creation from the WHSD Project's armoury division: the tooth bomb!

Obviously it isn't a real bomb, but I wanted to play around with the idea of making a steampunk grenade that used animal teeth as a sort of shrapnel.

This is what I ended up with.

As a maker of quirky munitions, myself, I rather like this idea.  Well executed, sir.

A very creative way to get high velocity animal shards lodged into things.  Well done.

To me it looks nothing like a bomb.

It doesn't look much like a traditional explosive, but it does look a bit like a launched grenade.

This pic shows the innards of several modern grenades from 25mm to 40mm (the launcher typically attached to an M-16 or M4 is a 40mm, for context)

Also, an enormous and well deserved Kudos on using the word shrapnel correctly in a sentence! Shrapnel is an exploding projectile loaded with sub-projectiles or the sub-projectiles themselves; the casing fragments and small debris from a high explosive shell are splinters.

Well done that man!

Excellent work!

For those questioning the boominess of this design, rigorous forensic deconstruction of the only known picture of this device yields the following hypothesis:

The black thing on top is a plunger.
When depressed, it forces Compound A (stored in the large nut area) down into Compound B (stored in the round bit you can see inside the glass).
When mixed, Compound A and Compound B expand rapidly, causing the glass to explode outward with teethy bits and shards.
You have about 3 seconds to throw it before it explodes in your hand.

Thanks for all the interesting feedback guys!

And kudos to loydb: that;s pretty much exactly who I imagined it would work.  The theory went that the dial on the top could be popped out and turned, starting the timer, and main explosion would occur inside the silver detonation cap, either using a blast cap or the hypothesis loydb outlined.

As requested more pics:

Bomb with label

Trigger

Detonation cap

Me admiring it, complete with unpractical face protection

The sort of thing I'd use it on.

Egad! The device and the rodent both look marvelously deadly. Nothing like organic shrapnel to catch your adversaries off guard.

Thanks for helping me feel a little less crazy, Hewhoisme.

I'm not the only one who does that sort of thing.

SPECTACULAR grenade!
