I noticed around November 2008 there was a thread on Haiku. I hope this thread I've started isn't unwelcome.
I know I don't have to tell you the rules of Haiku, but in a fit of tidiness, cannot resist:
It's five syllables Then followed by seven more Then another five
We can argue the merits of the various forms for Haiku, but what bother, eh? Instead of capturing the essences of a season or naturescape, let's capture the essence of steam or some related, albeit, alternate setting. We shall consider it bad form to criticize a Haiku missing a syllable or two, shall we?
Turning gears squeaking Behold the ornithopter Brass wings thrash above
I hope you will have fun with this.

blue arcing lightning flashing bright, from high towers with thunder in flight
---
from fire heat, water to steam, and pistons drive the engine wheels a turn
fluid the work of steam and gears, a poem writ by the steel and rail
the night express, by darkness fades, in glory dreams from our yesterdays ---

Hi, Guess you liked my mad-scientist poem (your post came up in a Google search). If you're interested, you can find some good scifaiku at http://scifaiku.com/.Andy Thanks for the link! I had your haiku quoted at me, and I've been telling it to people since. It never occured to me you might find it here. Well writ, good sir, well writ! As you can probably guess, I found the combination of mad science and haiku too good to let lie.
