Great website with all sorts of nifty objects. http://www.sciplus.com/index.cfm
They have some interesting stuff, lots of glass and chem equipment, military surplus (Yes, including gas masks and welding goggles) and a good amount of random steamy stuff.
This device
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
is on this http://www.sciplus.com/category.cfm/subsection/8 page and is currently my favorite object on the internet.

Has anyone else had experience with them, or know the quality?

I've ordered from them several times, and not been surprised once.  They give as accurate description as possible, considering some of the interesting items they acquire.  Don't forget to hover over the sketch for an actual picture of the item.
That particular item will be a very cheap import from India.  And you'll be pleased enough with it if you want it to sit shining on a shelf.  Don't expect master craftsmanship.  Other items are the real deal(surplus) and have some great quality to them.

For the $20 that costs, it might be worth it to have the brass parts for other projects.  Grab a pair and make your own goggles..who knows.

I have a walk-in store 20 minutes away and have spent alot of money there.

the prices aren't that great, but the selection makes it very convenient to load up on all sorts of crap.

mostly I shop at harborfreight.com now. I have one of those as a walk-in store about 20 minutes the other way.

same item for half the price. they also sell things like dremel bits and sanding stuff cheap, all sorts of cheap tools.

but you get pretty much what you pay for, cheap tools! don't go in expecting stuff to be very durable.

if you use the search function at the harborfreight websight, you can search "brass" and see a couple of items besides the compass sundial.

I searched Harbor Freight for "brass" and discovered these treasures:

Brass Aladdin Lamp
Brass Alidade and Transit
