Yes! This steampunk holiday is approaching. For these that are not aware of the finer points of this day, I shall try to clear things up a bit.

Air Kraken Day, was something more akin to Speak Like A Pirate Day, where you might go about as if Air Krakens were really flitting about in the sky, but last year, El Shoggotho made the suggestion of a Secret Kraken, where forum members would submit their names and addresses to a manager, which would make his matches from the list of applicants and privately message each person who their giftee would be. Only on the day of the Air Kraken would the people know who got something from whom. The Air Kraken Day falls on the day AFTER St. Patrick's Day, if I have it correct. That would be March 18th! By the way, I also still cherish my present!

I bring this up, because as I recall from one of these holidays, someone said something quite pertinent and I paraphrase: "Perhaps you couldn't do something special for Christmas either because of no time or no money, but perhaps you could swing it now."  So, with these hallowed days approaching, I would like to give everyone advance notice, and to have a thread where we can have all the discussions and jubilations. I of course volunteer for whatever capacity is needed, but if you all have someone in mind that has a stainless reputation, by all means, nominate that person!

Now, from past experiences, I would like to make some suggestions. I recommend that you try (it isn't a hard and fast rule, not at all, just be prepared for very long delays if using certain postal rates) to keep within your geographical regions (U.S., Europe, etc etc) because postal services seem a little wonky when it goes overseas. Alas, I learned my lesson, with either an unacceptably long delay of acknowledgment of delivery or lack thereof. If I am ever to send something overseas again, I think I shall employ the premium versions of the postal services offered, like Priority Mail USPS or FedEx. Pricier, but with more assurance of speed and reliability. Also, no one likes to hear about this, but it has to be said: The issue of (I recall how a certain lady put it) "slackers and latebods" and in addition moochers. I have a solution that may work, (for these in the United States, anyway), the use of delivery confirmation receipts. Sending these both to the "holiday coordinator" and the recipient would establish an alibi, so to speak. It might be a little... harsh, but there are few things that spoil things than a failure of the spirit of reciprocity.

These steampunk holidays are intended to be informal and glad events, nothing big. A $20 or under limit should more than suffice for the presents, if I may put it out there.

I would like to recommend for anyone sending packages overseas to celebrate Air Kraken Day to have a deadline of Feb. 20th. And for anyone that is mailing within their own geographical region, packages most likely take about two weeks at most, to arrive, so I suggest that March 3rd be that deadline for them.

These are the participants that have already signed up or signaled intent to join:

 * Wilhelmina Frame (possible), lives in U.S.A.

 * Elycium (possible), lives in U.S.A.

 * Prof Eumides Blakehurst, lives in Australia, but willing to post internationally.

 * Albrecht (potential), lives in Germany." I am happy to receive whatever they think is appropriate. DYI Steampunk stuff is obviously valued the most. As to what I will send as a gift: I am doing DIY Steampunk jewelry. I already have plans for ladies and gentlemen."

 * Miss Aetherly, U.S.A, willing to ship internationally.

 * Captain Quinlin Hopkins, U.S.A.

 * RoseOak, U.K. Much prefers to ship locally.

 * Kaljaia, U.S.A, willing to ship internationally.

 * phuphuphnik, U.S.A. Prefers to ship nationally, but willing to ship overseas.

I shall of course step in with a gift if the number of participants is an odd number.

 To wit:
The holiday is on March 18th!
The sign-up deadline is February 18th!
The posting deadline is March 3rd at the absolute latest!
The general dollar limit is $20!

Thank you for your participation, Miss Aetherly! If you could all also post a tidbit or two about yourselves to... inspire... the gifts, all the better!

Mindful of what? Were partners ever assigned? I'm very confused now about this deadline of which you speak.

The sign up deadline is the 18th. Then we get assigned partners.

Yes, the signing-up deadline is the 18th. The actual gifting deadline is later.

Oh, and Mr. Faust, if you are indeed participating, I am sure I could perhaps surreptitiously slip you suggestions as to gift ideas, aye?

All right. I'll start sorting things out, and start confirmations, but don't let that stop you from signing up if you've been too shy thus far, there's still a few hours left from my point of view at Eastern Seaboard Time!

Many apologies for delay, had a bit of an early weekend to-do, but I'm on the job now! Making pair-ups and double-checking confirmations - don't let that stop you guys from thinking up gift idea if you haven't already started. Mr. Faust, never fear, that lightbulb over your head will soon illuminate!

I tried to come on earlier, but the forums were down. However, I have gotten about 8 replies and confirmations thus far and will now set to the match-ups! Keep a weather eye on your in-boxes!
