Just testing the waters to see if there are enough Gogglers in the East Anglia region to form an informal group. possibly starting out with a bimonthly gathering, (Every two months) at a different location each time, so that everyone gets a chance of a meeting nit too far from home.
I know that Rockula is an Essex Inmate, is there anyone else who may interested?
All Suggestions welcome.
Apologies for the single sex title, but there was not enough room for "League of Esseextraordinary Gentlemen & ladies"

Hello everyone,
We hail from the Fens. Between Wisbech, Spalding & Peterborough. Probably out of range of your Essex Carriages. It would still be nice to meet up though...
Cheers, Herr Orgel Fuhrer.

I do technically live in Essex (near Tiptree) but I'm currently in Coventry for the university I would love to meet up when I'm back, and could probably come back easily on a weekend to meet up

Baron vonJazz heeding the call as I said I would. I'm based in a little ol' Village near London Stansted Airport on the western Rim of Essex. Good trasnport links (Read as I have a car) mean I can get anywhere in Essex with a fair amount of ease and I'm always up for a little pre-meet PubReccy

Is Essex actualy East Anglia Huh I always thought it more Cambridge way....essex being more down south ? Well, For the sake of convenience, I was, in my own mind, defining East Anglia as the roundish bit that sticks out of the right hand side of Great Britain. Traditionally East Anglia is Norfolk and Suffolk. But I was thinking in terms of the Modern definition. Norfolk, Suffolk, Cambridgeshire and Essex, But anybody who is close enough to attend is most welcome. I was talking with several people about this at the London Steampunk Spectacular on Saturday, and the general consensus was that we would need at least 8 or 10 members to start out with if we were going to have regular gathering in public.

That is as good as any. Some definitions extend as far as Northamptonshire.
The key is to have an area that is "gettoable" so that nobody has an excessive journey to get to gatherings. On that basis, and looking at the map, the A1 would seem to be a reasonable western boundary. (Thats not to exclude anyone willing to travel further.

Mr Addams, We are only minutes from the A1, but as it crosses from Nottinghamshire into God country, I mean Yorkshire. But saying that we will travel espspecially for a steamy meet up.
So I will keep an eye on this thread for a date and place. Yours, Lady Elsie.

So far we have a head count of eight or nine, which is doable, There is another goggler who is from Colchester, the same town as me. I have PM'd him, but so far no reply. Since May already has quite a lot happening, I would suggest that we hold the first gathering sometime in April. I would suggest the East Anglian Railway Museum as a venue for the first gathering, as it is fairly central. After that, we each take a turn to host a meeting. Any thoughts?

Sounds good, if it is done on a weekend and I know about it a little time in advanced I should be able to come (need to book train tickets), but I would find it difficult to host as I would be based at my parents house, I would be able to recommend a few places though
Cheers Ignasis

Awwww I believe we took our cogling to that railway museum many, many years ago to ride on Thomas the 'Tanken' engine. He'd probably be more interested in working on it now! The only thing I can think of for my area, is obviously Epping Forest. Luckily the one nice pub in the town backs right onto the Forest, maybe good for photo opportunities later on in the summer. I'll have a think of other things to do but quite honestly I do all my socialising in London. Remember Whitby is at the end of April.

As pointed out by the good Mr. Addams, myself and my wife are Essex dwellers. There are several more London based folk who would also travel. And as London is only 15 miles from me it would seem churlish to exclude the Cogneys. Therefore, I believe we're numbering a fair few Anglian Steampunks (true or 'honorary') for a decent gathering to be achievable.

Hello all, Angus here. Sorry for the delay but due to an over ambitious move playing a rubber of Mornington Crescent, I am (hopefully temporarily) suspended in a different universe and the aethernet links are a bit iffy. As Mr.Addams says I am in Colchester, which is NE Essex. Be glad to meet up, so count me in.
Mr.Addams, thank you for the PM.

Good to make contact with you Mr Fitziron, I thought I was all alone here in Colchester. There is a Day out with Thomas over the Easter bank Holiday weekend, at The East Anglian Railway Museum. May I provisionally suggest either the weekend following, or the weekend after that?

Er yes. Done my fair share of 'Thomas' days ...
Saturdays are best for me - not that I can't do Sundays but they are frequently booked so less likely to be able to come on jollies!

In the absence of any dissenters, I propose that the First gathering of the East Anglia League of Steampunks [Memo to self. Come up with a better name than tha SOON.] Be held at The East Anglian Railway Museum on Saturday 17th April, 2010. Please let me know if this involves any serious clashes.

around that time SHOULD be ok for me.
There's a week somewhere in April where I'm at the helm of my place of work so I'll need to double check dates once a weekend is settled upon by the majority =]

With The Exception of Lady Ruff-Diamond, and Baron Von Jazz, There has been little response. So I shall Rephrase the question. Who would like to come to the The East Anglian Railway Museum on Saturday 17th of April 2010 For the first gathering of East Anglia Steampunks? If there are enough people interested on this thread, I will make an announcement on the Geographical Board to see if there is a wider interest.
