Dear Ladies & Gentlemen, for your consideration. Steampump! An event in central subterranean Melbourne on 8 May 2010. Get steamed and get pumped (in a purely exciting & platonic fashion of course good sirs). Details are here http://www.historyupclose.com.au/STEAMPUMP2010_Home.htmwe are still looking for exhibitors & performers, so if you are that way inclined please do not hesitate to call on us via novahistoria@iprimus.com.auBest regards Robert Le Mal

Colour me that excited shade of pink!
I shall be busy building doo dads and what nots so as to have a table full of steampunk goodness to wax lyrically about all night.
My wife and I already plan to hotel it in Melbourne overnight, so we can relax and enjoy the evening in its totality.

Is there an RSVP date? I'm applying for the defence force but it will be a little while before I know if I am still in Melbourne around that date.

Unless something dastardly and dramatic comes up, this shall be another event I'll be attending for sure!
May see if I can't drag a few friends out of the woodwork to come along for the night.

Ladies & Gentlemen, very pleased that people are coming, would be rather boring there by myself (we already have 35 attending and the invite has only been up for a few days). For those wishing to attend could you please send a quick email to contact@novahistoria.com We will be sending out up dates and I'd prefer to have a list of email addresses rather than rely upon forums (especially if I miss updating one). And should you have something you'd like to display or perhaps sell (I might be selling the odd pipe after my recent spree) please let us know. Oh and one final point, Miles noted this one, if you are travelling via dirigible/zeppelin please avoid the Spencer street approach (lots of high voltage lines). Best regards Robert

Looks fantastic Robert! Exhibits, eh? How about a mad science display? Horrific medical practices of the past? Whatever happens, I shall definitely be there!

I will be conducting my own research on those attending and recording the data. In terms of "mad science" are you offering Rowan? I generally practice what I call "Gonzo Science" not quite as exciting as mad science but the expectations are lower and therefore more achieveable. We are currently coniving to get someone who has lots of medical toys to come along...please cross your fingers & toes for us.
best regards
Robert

well 7 or so days since we publicized Steampump and we have 58 attendees so far, and possibly one artist travelling from Sydney to exhibit his creations. Have now sent off an email to ascertain the comfortable capacity of the basement.
Best regards

And I am trying to get in contact with both Stirling and Alex Gill-Chambers (from Rolling Stone article on steampunk) as they will be in Melbourne then, and Alex has a range of steampunk attire.
I have even convinced my wife to dress the part for the evening if I can secure costume!

Dear Maduncle,
if struggling with costume for your partner please send me an email with some idea of sizing, Gina (my wife/partner in crime/fellow nutter) has a few Victorian period outfits and she can only wear one to the event...I'm hoping it's the purple corset & bustle....but enough of that.
Best regards
Robert

can you ever have too many mad scientists?
I'm not sure what Ray is planning but if you're really worried like ..."dont you hate it when you go to a party and some other guy has exactly the same Jacob's Ladder that you brought?"... drop by Wunderkammer and have a chat with Ray, he's lovely bloke and he really knows his stuff, unlike me.

He is indeed a lovely chap, and I was only jesting, I cannot wait to see his private collection! I know he collects medical electrics, for one...

The updated site is looking most promising - we have a meeting with Alex on Monday night to discuss costume for the event. Meanwhile I am building up stock of items for display - so far I reckon I will have three specific devices, two ray guns, one ray blunderbuss, two miniature ray guns, goggles and hopefully two items back from Oxford.

Logistics update...
After a quick squiz for hotels local to the venue, I have found the Alto - just across the road.
They are offering very nice rooms for $150 for the night (including parking) so my wife and I have decided to stay there so I can stagger back to my room after the event.
Just in case other attendees are also looking for digs...
Lovely.

Stocktake time...
I have now have ready for display (and sale on the night):
1 x Specific Device 2A, the steampunk microscope. 1 x Specific Device 3A, the 'Helianthis' iPod docking station. 4 x Specific Devices on wooden bases. 3 x Steampunk headphone sets for MP3 players. 1 x pair of modded goggles. 1 x miniature brass 'The Flea' raygun. 1 x 'Bianca' raygun on display stand. 1 x 'Bertha' the four foot ray blunderbuss on display tripod. 1 x 'Gentlemans' Own Plutonian Adventure Kit' raygun with light, boxed with accessories. 1 x set of 'Inspectacles' back from the Oxford exhibition. 1 x 'Little Lord Cameron' webcam back from the Oxford exhibition. 2 x display vacuum tubes on timber bases. 1 x 'Lab lamp' working desklamp made from found lab glass and other parts.
I think that will do!
