At the successful December meet in Bournemouth it was suggested that we create a group identity for steampunks living in Bournemouth and the surrounding area. I therefore offer you :

The League of Bournemouth Steampunks

I see this thread as being a focus for atttracting 'new blood' in our area, as well as for arranging future local meets and excursions further afield. Please post on this thread if you are interested in joining in.

I'm interested, I'll try to pop along to some of the meetings, though I have no SP regalia to wear. My track record with going to local group meetings is a bit lacklustre, but I'll try my best!

All good leagues require a shadowy and villainous member, as likely to betray them to the enemy as ride to their rescue; so count me in.

Our next outing will be an excursion to Steampunk Exhibition in Oxford, to catch the Makers Day on 16th January. At present it looks like 5 of us from the Bournemouth area will be going there. Should be a Grand Day Out.

More meets and outings are in the planning stage  Wink

Great to meet those of you I saw in Oxford yesterday. I do hope I can squeeze in a trip to the home country sometime very soon!

Now that the Oxford excursion is behind us, is anyone up for a return visit to the Russell-Cotes Museum one Sunday afternoon in February? If you are interested please reply with which dates you could make it on.

I belive I read someplace that people were to be meeting up tomorrow at somepoint? If so, where, when and who? I'm planning to bring a new inquiring mind to show her what steampunkery is, so be on your best behaviours!

This may not be a good idea, but the medium of the internet bypasses that part of one's brain that filters out thoughts before they get to the vocal cords (or fingertips in this case), so I'll suggest it anyway and see what people think.

I have, in recent days, become very envious of those 'Flea Market Finds' our antipodean friends come up with. Our nearest market of that sort this time of year is Wimborne Market. Do any local members fancy making it a semi-regular micro-meet? We could just turn up, in mufti or costume of varying degrees of elaboration, keep an eye out for things of interest for each other, and meet up halfway through to trade tip-offs and have a cup of tea.

I'll probably be going this Saturday, whatever we decide. I'll be in semi-dress; 10 miles either way on a fixed gear bike might be too much in full get-up.

Mr Hudson Sir,

I think that is a rather splendid idea, being a scavenger and pack rat of embarrassing inclination myself! My only problem is that I have a small Saturday job so would be limited to a Sunday morning.

However, I hope this idea might grow legs and run on either day!

When the weather improves and Easter arrives, we could also consider Ashley Heath car boot sale.

I will watch with interest!  Smiley

Aha!

(this seems like the most logical place to put it)

http://www.dontstayin.com/uk/bournemouth/sound-circus/2010/apr/08/event-235649

I may be there. Problem is, I'm in a passion play that night, so it depends somewhat on whether I can get un-1st century and properly 19th century in time Tongue but I'm hopeful.

This and other events have already been circulated amongst the local steampunk community via our Facebook group:

The group is worth joining to keep up on what's happening in our area.
