Steampunk Jobs
« on: January 01, 2010, 09:42:33 pm »
Thought it'd be nice to have a list of all jobs steampunk, fiction or real.

Aerophonotologist - Researcher of randomly occurring sounds from the aether. Modern examples: Slow Down, The Hum, Bloop
Aerial Buccaneer - Artillery Balloonist unit able to quickly board enemy airships and enter areas unreachable by land, for spying and raiding missions.
Airship Designer - scheming interiors and/or exteriors of airships using blueprints and scale models.
Nautical Captain - captain of a nautical vehicle, such as a submarine.

Anyone got some other awesome job titles?
Engineer J. Fairbeard, Civil Engineer
Designer of the H.M.S. Mercuria

I teach calculus at an elite preparatory school for girls.  That seems weirdly Victorian, if not exactly steampunk.

Mad Scientist.

Surely most jobs in science and engineering can be considered 'Steampunk'? Unless, I suppose, your a computer engineer/scientist...

Airship Designing... I like the right of an "airship architect" more.

I like that, although I think "Aero-Naval Architect" has more of a ring to it; essentially, the skills of the Naval architect and airship designers are near identical, especially when it comes to stability (same as for submarines), damage and fluid resistance.
Airship Privateer always appealed to me as well; legalised airship piracy, of course.

A bit of a hold over from earlier times. What today would be a recon scout.
May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.
