Mr. and Mrs. Camera Obscura tentatively plan to attend the August 14th event. I will confirm early next week after clarifying some family plans. Our costumes will be somewhat limited because we are still unpacking and the only clearly identified boxes are our vintage hat collection.

Completely understandable. Several haven't even ahd the chance to create anything yet, so no worries. The main object is to meet face to face and enjoy the company of others of like mind.  As scary as that sounds to some Wink  Hope to see you there.

We are looking forward to the Garland meeting.

Now to change the subject.... I noticed in yesterday's Dallas paper that a play is opening on Monday and running through September 5 at Theatre Three at the Quadrangle of an adaptation of Crucifer of Blood with a "steampunk treatment"! Now if there is anything that gets our attention more quickly than the mention of  steampunk it is anything with a Sherlock Holmes connection. The critic admits to the embarrassment of not knowing what steampunk was until he was told. Since we are new to the area we have no idea if this venue and production is likely to be worthwhile but we plan to attend.

Theater Three has a good reputation for putting on quality independent productions.

Man, that looks great! If I were going to be in Dallas, I'd definitely do this.

Hey there. I'm a artist of steampunkery that is looking for events in Texas to sell my art in October. Does anyone have any ideas? I'm originally from Madisonville, Tx and looking for a way to pay the bills to see family and friends. If you want to see what we do check our blog out:

Howdy!  I came about a year ago to Steampunk by a roundabout manner.  I reenacted for 20+ years and am now a bit too slow and long of tooth to sleep outside in blazing heat and blasting cold, so I am adapting my stuff and eager to hang out with eccentric individuals once't again!  I am located nearest to San Antonio, but not all that far from Austin.  Neu Braunfels, to be precise.

My Civil War group is an at-large state-wide organization.  I'm wondering if we can pull all the disporate Steampunkers in the Lone Star State and form one group, with a centralized meeting place for an annual meeting and regions for monthly (or such) meetings?  Jist a thought.

Mainly I'm looking to hang out, sip port, and tell lies...

 Howdy Glaubrius,
Just north of you in Austin we meet twiced-a-week at Epoch coffee house. There we swap ideas, discuss photoshoots, plan "strolls", and ofcourse drink coffee and show off our latest projects.
I myself have a mild intrest in the war of northern agression. However I never had time and resources to get serriously involved. I would love to get some insight and advise on costume and gear.
 Here's our page.

How does one find details about where Epoch is, what time the meeting is, what days, etc???

I would like to be able to join folks at some kind of monthly or annual meeting of Texans.

We meet every other Wednesday starting about 6:00 P.M. til 10:00 P.M. ( I'm usualy late due to current work schedules) But I can almost garruntee that Professor Folderol will be there on time. I think he's missed perhaps one meeting since we started these meet ups last November.
The next meeting will be on the 8th of September.

 Where abouts are you located?

Naaah!  It's still doable.  I knew a fellow aerospace engineering college student who worked as an Air Force mechanic by night, and drove from SA to Austin every day to attend college classes...

Is anyone from our glorious republic of a state going to Wild Wild West Con?

http://brassgoggles.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,26899.0.html

I'm thinking perhaps we can form a convoy to drive there and I plan to reserve a suite where perhaps we can throw some Texas-sized parties! Who's in?

 Well!
It certainly gives me time to consider being able to make it. And I am definatly interested! I will serriously consider the dates in question for my up comming vacation bid at work. If all goes well I may have room in my truck for carpooling efforts.

Well, I've already reserved one of those dandy Presidential Suites, which can have around 6 people not sleeping on the floor (not counting the cots the hotel offered me once we arrived), with two rooms (living room and sleeping area, plus bathroom of course) for only $50 per person if I can get 6 people, $40 if I can get 8!

I would love to go, but it is uncertain now if it will be feasible. Sounds like great fun!

BaronPablo,

Might want to double check the website for the booking code.  They're currently showing:group code #1989

$109 Room rate for a Presidential Suite.

could be a typo, either way worth checking into.

Just as a FYI for DFW locals, the Dallas Makerspace is now open for your creative, scientific,
or just plain diabolical needs. Open meetings are held every Thursday evening from 7pm until
roughly 10pm. Further information can be found at http://www.dallasmakerspace.com/blog/

I haven't made it through all of the Texas posts, however I am ever giddy at finding others in San Antonio!  I'm hoping to find a good tea party or so to attend (I did see one mentioned, on the facebook page I've found, but alas I work on the weekends and it is indeed to soon for me to schedule the day off).  I look forward to connected to other local mad hatters.
