I usually do gift baskets. like one year I made plates with folded mapkins and layed out crackers, cheeses, nuts and fruit. in decorative arrangments. then a book that suits the reciever underneath the plate.
Then I did a coffee cups with coffees and cocoa powders, chocolate dipped spoons ect.
they pretty much all have maching complete place settings now.
this year I resorted to a stinky basket. Fragrance spray, body lotion, hand soaps and lip balms. scented candles and chocolate truffles.
It's not really steamy and it's not super impressive but it's easier to personalise by picking things for each person that suit them. You can get sample packs and assortments cheaply and take them apart to make gift baskets, and you can mix things from differant companies that compliment each other. The cost is comparable with some of the cheaper gift baskets out there but so much more control and personalisation to them.
Maybe I'll have to come up with some steam punk gift baskets. that could be fun. I've already got designs to make goth and other themed baskets, why not?
oh, man, that's a fantastic idea! Maybe I'll do that next year.

Do you smile to tempt a lover? Or is this your way to hide a broken heart? Many dreams have been brought to your doorstep; they just lie there and they die there.

I did a quickie brass table lamp makeover the Xmas holiday. I had an old lamp with one of those treasure chest/knick-knack holder things mounted on a wood base in our guest room. Off when the chest and it then became a Thomas A Edison Commemorative Lamp. I had bought 2 ceramic Jim Beam '100 Yrs of the Light Bulb' commemorative whiskey decanters (empty) from Ebay for $5.00 - cleaned them up, mounted them on the wooden lamp base, added a decorative steam pressure gauge (thanks to Capt Lyerly of the Upper Chesapeake Steam Defence League) as well as a copper connecting spring between the 'light bulbs' and that was that. A nice steamy effect for a fairly small amount of effort, my sort of lazy person's project. markf

For presents I made a book about my father's days flying as a barnstormer and gave them to my sister and niece. For (hopefully) sale I made a lamp and two USB drives, with 3 more in progress.

I did a ton of sewing most of which can be seen in the sewing thread but as I like to brag here are some photos. Minimalist stuffy trees (made about 20, they were given in increments of 3 per to various family members) "Quilted" note cards Sockings (made 10 - photo is pre-iron on letters for the names) A Hawaiian shirt for my Uncle A tote bag for my secret santa partner These fascinators for my other secret santa partner I embroidered this pillowcase for the husband (I still need to do the one for my pillow) I also made 2 necklaces which I don't have photos of and some other "stuffy" trees that were 6 sided that I sent to my mom. I had some other items on the list to sew but I didn't get there. Although looking at everything all together I got a hell of a lot of stuff done. I suppose being underemployed and having the husband in Asia for 21 days helped.

I should take a pic before I deliver the last few, but to keep costs down, utility up, and fun at a maximum, I made up about a dozen survival kits for folks. Housed in camouflage-painted Altoids tins (I do so love paint camouflage) everybody got the following handy supplies:
1. Folding pliers with screw drivers 2. Water purification tablets, 2 3. asprin and benadryl, 6 each 4. razor blade and fishing hook, wrapped in fishing line 5. sanitary wipes, disinfectant, alcohol pads, etc. 6. water proof matches, 8 (plus striker, glued to tin) 7. tinder, 3 pieces (cut from this strange, high-density all natural rope we found, works great) 8. a few bandaids and safety pins 9. single-use super glue (stitches)
It won't keep you alive in the wilderness if you're stupid, but then nothing will. But it just might have something handy in it when you really really need it, and they put that "emergency preparation" thing into the non-abstract real life. Many folks will improve something they have when they wouldn't start from scratch with nothing.

Here's the desk lamp as it is, still needs some work. I need tinted glass to replace the windows, something for a cap plug, a new switch cover and some etching as ornamentation. At least it works. I may make small chairs and furniture inside as in my first lamp. 2 more photos here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/gozdom/sets/72157623114135708/

I made my roommate a flask. Spent a couple of bucks on a flask gift set with a kind of dumb looking fish picture in the middle of the flasks. Pried that awful thing off, and replaced it with some coggy decorations. There's a little one and a big one (obviously) and I'll make her a thigh strap for the large one - so she'll have to lift up her skirt to get her big flask, and the little one I'll make a small pouch for her bandoleir. Zeus - god of six dollar gifts

I was able to get most of my kids' presents at the Angels' uniform sale, and have been somewhat busy on renovating the jacket i got myself there, but I did make my daughter a bedside wall lamp from a (dead) radio controlled sports car. I inserted an off the shelf lamp fitting into the exhaust pipe with half an industrial cone lampshade. My son made me a steamy hat rack which has now gone up in my bedroom to accommodate my pith helmet, felt hat, flying helmet and ladypilots hat.

I made my sister a ceiling light. She needed one in here new home. Not fully assembled: I forgot to take more pictures. Will do as soon I'm at my sisters home to install this thing. I have a render here which shows how the lamp works: You can pull on the string which lifts the two lights so that you can adjust the angle of the light in your room. Has also a remote controlled dimmer. Sorry, someone has broken my english today...

Hello all, I have just found out of the steampunk style last month. I think I fell in love with it Here is my first try that I have given away as a Christmas gift to my niece. I am all excited to make more things and have just gotten a handful of old watches from a friend of mine! I just need to find some free time now
