would this be a good base to start from?
it's a 22 dollar child's training cross bow from Bass Pro shop http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_89096_450001000_450000000_450001000_450-1-0

If so, what do you think would look good added to it? It doesn't need to function by the way, purely a prop. Also, does anyone have any ideas on how to make a belt quiver to hold some fake bolts?

I'm sure you could do a lot with somehing like that. If you could find something made of wood and unpainted metal, it would be even cooler, though.

Given the hollow stock at the back, you could fill it with fine filigree and end up with something inspired by the one below.
