We are pleased to announce the dates for Steamcon II. We will be holding the second annual Steamcon November 19th - 21st, 2010. We are going to be expanding our facilities into the lovely Hilton Seattle Airport Hotel as well as the beautiful Seattle Airport Marriott next year. This means even more space for steampunk activities and wonders. We request your patience while we bodger together the new website and figure out exactly what delights to bring you. Meanwhile, save the date and begin your preparations for our second Steamcon. We can't wait to see you all again!
~your humble hostess, Diana Vick

ACK! 2 hotels. I hate that. Oh well. We will be going anyway. It just means we are going to end up missing most of what's not at the hotel we are in. Which will be the main hotel? If you know yet...

I don't know how close they are. If they are within easy walking distance it might be ok but I am dreading getting on shuttles with a large bustle or any sort of big costume pieces like my wings. What a nightmare. I had to ride a shuttle just in a regular outfit with a bustle a few years ago at Maker Faire and it was pretty miserable.

There wasn't much choice. We needed the space. The Hilton is right across the street. An easy walk, but there will also be shuttles since not everyone can walk. There really isn't a main hotel as things will be split between both. We are working on which will have which events. ~artvixn

Across the street helps! No idea how my husbands arthritis will be, I can walk and he can shuttle if need be. Thanks for answering that, I am dreading breaking the 2 hotel news to him a little less now. I'll just have him pick one then. OK! Perhaps the Hilton will have better parking.
Some of us walked from the Marriott downe the hill as needed to access local restaurants. It was a beautiful sight to see people all decked out, strolling along the avenue...
Well, at least we know the layout and the location of the Marriott...

Seattle ( like Portland OR, ) both enjoy cool wet weather; some times it's quite warm. Like high fifties or sixties in November. But mainly the fifties, with over cast and varying levels of precipitation. It's quite nice really.

But mainly the fifties, with over cast and varying levels of precipitation. It's quite nice really. And then sometimes you get a horrible cold snap in December that gets down in the teens...but it doesn't even snow...*grumbles* Wet weather gear is a must, and cold weather gear is good just in case. It rarely pours here, usually just a light rain at all times. Across the street helps! No idea how my husbands arthritis will be, I can walk and he can shuttle if need be. I JUST bookmarked this from a Threadbangers forum post: http://dollarstorecrafts.com/2009/11/ruffly-umbrella/It's rather quick and not too elaborate, but I imagine it could be expanded on quite nicely.

Oh, that is rather nice...very convenient for outfit planning (if one is wearing the same outfit to both). Yay for living in Seattle and having family in Portland! No hotel rooms! Sadly, we have no room for guests.

I've been contemplating going, but I can't find anyone to go with. I'm from Alberta, so its not terribly far, but I'm a little frightened of going across the border alone.
But hey, fear is one of my biggest thrills. I'll probably end up going, companion or not. =D

Miss! Please you must Come, it's the most welcoming and entertaining place you'll ever go unless you join a cult maybe... And we American's aren't nearly as scary / weird as we look and sound. You can't believe how many friends you'll have at the end of the weekend when you come. I would love make friend another friend from Canada, as all the Canadians I've met are super cool. If you come I'd be quite honored to show you around, Sincerely, The Inventor.

Nonetheless, I'll hold you to that, sir! You look more pretty than weird to me, Lillibat. ^^; But I suppose, by that statement, if you're as weird as you look, you are are also more pretty than you look, right? Edit: Hehe, drunk compliments. But its true.

A Grey hair you say? Well Miss I am regarded by many to be young, and yet possess in my beard several white hairs even at this age ( hidden in the dark brown, red and blond ones ). And it would be my Great Pleasure to show you the many great things both Steam Con, and Americans can display for hospitality and and culture. Steam Punk is a most interesting Culture, and I cannot claim to be by any stretch it's spokesman just yet. I would have to say while Lilibat, and her husband have probably been called weird many times; their costumes were amazing last year! Actually there were tons of super cool ( and many super cheap ) costumes people wore and explained at length should a soul but ask. I myself merely wore what I might wear around Portland on a free day of my own + a couple of add ons to further the Steam Punk notion a bit; but there was no meter stick to be measured by when it came to expense or detail. And if you can choose to I would humbly suggest taking the train, many of us do and it's quite a wonderful trip all and all.

Just checked out what it'd cost to get me there. I'm pleasantly surprised to say that round trip, bus and train, is about $250, which is half of the cost of the plane ticket. Sure, I spend a day in travel each way, and six hours waiting in Vancouver in the wee hours of the morning, but that is a price that even my mother can approve of.
Now, if I could only find a hotel close to the event that isn't going to set my bank account on fire and dance upon it.
