I have quick questions for the watch experts…
I have attempted to make a watch fob along the lines of these:

This is what I have so far:

My questions are:
1. How long should I make the leather thong?
2. How long should the slit be to pass the watch through? Or should I not cut it and let the buyer cut the slit to the length they need?

I'm more of a noob than an expert but as far as the slit goes, it needs to be big enough to pass the fob not the watch. You'd push the leather through the bow then pull the fob through the slit causing the leather to constrict on the watch bow. As far as length of the leather...I think this is more of a personal preference. However, I'm a noob so take what I say with a grain of salt.

Hey Jacobi,
Thanks for the info. I hadn't thought of it that way... And just because yor're a "noob" does not mean you do not have helpful advise...

Thanks again...

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
this should work though Wink

I think you should guage the length by wearing it with your own waist coat and just make a leather loop like in the first pics

The one of that style that I have is about six inches long.  As an approximate length I would aim for something like that.  You don't want it so short that the fob drops into the pocket, or so long that the fob gets in the way.  You could leave it slightly longer, with instructions to cut the end and make the slit to suit.

The one of that style that I have uses a buckle instead of a slit to form the loop at the end, but the principle is the same.
