Humble Embassador of the Fiorian Federated Empires

Submitted for the approval of the Brass Goggles Steampunk Forum:

I am presently in the process of creating a steampunk-themed graphic novel. My greatest challenge in this endeavor is finding reference material of a visual nature. Most of the websites I've stumbled upon are largely text-based, not unlike our humble forum. I can find encyclopedias worth of words, but what I need are pictures. I would be delighted to find a site dedicated to Victorian clothing photography, machinery, environments, military equipment, inventions, and the like. Suggestions, please?

Thank You in Advance,
The Nomad

Hey,

First of, there's a List of steampunk websites at the top this forum that might be of help.

If I may, I'd like to recommend my own The Gatehouse. If you click the "Steampunk" tag, hopefully, some helpful imagery turns up. You might also want to browse the News Archives which includes everything up to February 2009.

For clothing, the Steampunk Fashion group on flickr is a good resource.

The Portuguese Conselho Steampunk usually has some great stuff too.

You could try Steampunk Empire, I've put the link below.  They have a dedicated photo thread with over 5,700 pictures that you could use as inspiration, ranging from fashion to weapons, instruments and inventions, through vehicles and original artwork.  Also,I would check with owners of the photos first to clear up any copyright issues that may be involved.

Good luck with your search and your graphic novel.
