I made this cane out of an ancient toy zeppelin that i found in Philadelphia, and a banister upright. The zeppelin was originally covered in rust, it once had a nickel covering but water got under it at one point so it had to be stripped down with pickle acid and steel wool. After that i painted it and sealed it. The banister i sanded and painted, i think the whole thing came out rather well, but what do you all think?

I think it'll go really well with the rest of your kit.  The white bit at the middle of the shaft is a nice touch - it holds the shaft and the handle together visually.

I have wrapped the other end in sheet brass and fixed it in place with three small screws, it should extend the life of the cane considerably.

That is a great cane, very original and well executed.  markf

I like it a lot. I agree that the mid-shaft accent brings the whole thing together. How is the weight? With only a picture I can imagine the Zepeling being prohibitively heavy OR being a perfect balancer.

Nice, I would have tried brass plating with my caswell kit, something to consider when the paint job comes up for renewal, especially if steel.

You can get brass walking stick ferrules (the bit which protects the wood from wear) which polish up nicely, again somethingto consider when wear sets in.

Otherwiseif it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Should be possible to replate then, iron or steel is optimal for such plating.

Could plate silver or gold with the Caswell kits, as well as brass, so plenty of options for the future when the issue of repaint comes up.

You can prolong the current paint jobs life by using a good clear varnish, and you can aways dress up the shaft of the cane by painting/carving.
