First project: Brass goggles. 52mm brass tubing, normally used to build boilers for toy steam engines, is the base. The screw rings of German welding goggles are glued to the tube with J-B Weld (heavy duty two-component epoxy). The nose bridge will be replaced with a combination of screw rod and brass tubing, a keychain will become the headband. That's a prototype. If it works out great, I might be tempted to make a series of brass goggles.
Second project: Respirator. A standard mask (two filters, covering nose and mouth) will receive old Russian gas mask hoses that can be connected to a backpack unit. If everything works out fine, the mask will retain its filtering abilities. Embellishment with brass scales is planned.
Third project: lighting. 45 amber coloured LEDs will become a domestic lighting solution. Add to that mix a stabilized 12 volts power source and a bunch of resistors. I know how to do it, I just need to wait for the supplies. I just don't know yet how it will look.

Nope. I ditched the copper tube idea. If I had cheap access to that length of brass tubing, I'd be in tinkerer's heaven. |

That was close to what my guess would have been (A telephonicgamecontrollerlanterntesttubestand), but since it's 4 projects, then: It's a modified "Spirit of St. Louis" "Aircraft" telephone (I have one of their "Aviation Field Phones" but am not that happy with the overall quality of it, however it has given me a few ideas on how to go about building a desk phone version/equivalent to the TT-MK1-A), along with a home-made video game controller (looks to be using standard Arcade components), a lantern stand and a very incomplete test-tube rack....  |

The Spirit of St. Louis phone is spot on (defective ringer removed, that semi-coated wire winding out of the top is connected to a large bellringer once found in a German phone from 1971), the partially threaded brass thingies will become lantern hooks, the arcade controller is made from Japanese standard parts, and the test tube rack is very incomplete and might stay that way until I can finally procure silver solder. Can't really weld it with my puny tools. |
