I quite like the simple and obvious ones, like 'Abney Park Fan'.

Or, possibly, Bernard.

I found a 'John Law' on a tombstone- I knew he was ill, but apparently he'd died in the 1880's...

Neither is Pnakotus Wink, but I thought that maybe APF would find parts of names he/she liked and mix and match to their satisfaction. Or better yet, find inspiration to come up with something original.

Snarkbait. Or The Unknown Steampunk. Captain Mysterious. I'm kidding you, of course.

Really, your own name should definitely be DIY. It really doesn't have to be all that, you know...if you'll notice, the names here run the gamut from dead obvious to truly obscure. I'm sure you can do it. Abney Park Fan is not too bad, considering.
Welcome to the Forum.

Now now, let us not be too snarky and risk scaring off our new forumer, shall we?

Personally, I prefer Achewood's name generator:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

And for example, I developed my own moniker as a portmanteau, of sorts, from Angus MacGyver and Charlie McCarthy

(Give a man a fish/teach a man to fish, etc...)

I have previously stated that I am waiting for someone to take the name "Captain Emo." As far as I know, this quasi-Vernian monicker is still unused.

....possibly because "emo" and "Steampunk" mix about as well as wolverines and newborn bunnies.

APF:

In my opinion, a "good Steampunk name" is one which you have devised yourself, to suit the persona you wish to portray (whether that persona be a fictional role-play character or simply a riff on your everyday personality.)

I can refer you to the Strang or Unique names that you like thread in Textual (and yes, that is how the thread topic is spelled) for a list of interesting names, and there's also the Persona names thread which is stickied at the top of Metaphysical. This latter thread is the aggregation of several discussions on how and why many of us chose our names, and should offer you some inspiration on how to approach the answering of your own question.

Warmest regards,

Prof. Darwin Prætorius von Corax

I rather like Abney Park Fan, though it may be more of an indentifier, than a name, per say.
However, it does have a first, middle, and last name.
Also, your initials don't stand for anything obnoxious, (that I know of), or spell anything humourous.
I don't see that you have such a big problem.
