Anyone read Kenneth Oppel's novels, they are steeped in airships, pirates and victorian era escapades.

Yeah, a couple other people have mentioned Oppel's Airborn novels. I really enjoy them even if they are supposed to be young adult novels.

Nice books and ideas; it's just I hated how the characters progressed, which was kind of a downer. Anyway, isn't there a third book where they go onto space? I haven't seem it in the shops or anything so I'm not entirely sure. Maybe it's only in sale in Canada?

I like the way Matt is progressing. I'm not too impressed with Kate, though.

Yes, in the third book they go into space. I thought it was pretty well done. Lots of action and suspense. Kate was still a bit of a twit, but I've come to accept that.

No spoilers, but are there any creatures?

I've read the first two, but... they have a steam powered space elevator? That's a bit of a let-down; I was expecting they'd use an Airship-to-Orbit scheme. Sad

Of course! How could there not be airships? They just don't go into space. Wink

I own both of these books and I have to say, they were the first thing that renewed my interest in zeppelins and airships. I think the first two books were what actually got me into the whole steampunk thing in the first place, without knowing what it was called. Theres a third book out you say? And it has a STEAM POWERED SPACE ELEVATOR? Why aren't people taking this idea more seriously? With a few billion we could all be in space via elevators now!

True. If we could tether a lift onto some orbiting space station we get to space with little power.
