Bump....

Has it been decided what form the payment will take as yet? Are we just booking our own rooms and party tickets or are we (as I think was suggested) taking a pool and booking en masse as it were?

Personally I have had a couple of problems with the hotel trying to clarify the menu for new year with respect of my personal dietary requirements (I'm not inclined to spend £60 on a meal I cannot eat).   They have failed to act on phoned enquiries or emails but I have managed to speak to the sales manager today who has promised to sort it out for me by Monday at the latest.   I am afraid that puts Lady Elsie and my participations on hold for the moment.  Sorry.

I've had a busy few days, so apologies for the lack of response. I will phone the hotel tomorrow to confirm payments for the party tickets (£20 deposit only required at this stage). Rooms I will block book the number of rooms and give them names, then all you have to do is book in your own room on arrival (under your steampunk name!) and pay yourself on departure.

Thanks for the offer but it should be in hand.  I phoned them more than a week ago and they promised to get back to me but didn't.  I emailed a few days ago and got no reply.  I phoned again and the lady answering knew about my call and my email and said someone has been told to sort it out and was surprised they hadn't.  She put me through to the sales manager who apologised and has promised to sort it.  I am expecting a call and an email tommorrow from the sales manager so best to let her keep her promise I think.

Not trying to be awkward but I really don't want to spend 60 quid on a ticket for the priveledge of watching you guys eat much as I value your company Grin  The sales manager has promised it can be sorted out and she is sure I can eat something that is on the menu or accomodation can be made.

I've spoken to the hotel and confirmed the following:

Party tickets: The ticket deposit per person can be paid directly to the hotel on an individual basis. Please pay your £20 deposit by October 26th, direct with the hotel: 01347 825 400. All payments need to be paid under the party name of: Aldersey - Historic Costume Club New Years Eve Party

Hotel rooms: I've block booked 8 rooms in total. 6 Doubles (including one double for Peter as Sebastian is now bringing a friend along) and 2 twins, but each individual/couple need to ring and reserve their individual room, so the hotel know who to check in/charge on arrival. Again, the rooms have been booked under the party name of Aldersey

Menu choices: Menu choices aren't required until early December, so you will need to provide your menu choices when you pay the final party ticket amount of £40 per person, direct to the hotel: 01347 825 400, by December 6th.

Tinker, I understand from the lady I've been dealing with (Claire Bugg) that your dietry requirements have been sorted and that someone left a message to confirm this with you this morning. I hope this is the case!!??

I booked my twin room this morning. I did say that I was with the VSS party and she knew what the hell I was on about (which was encouraging). I'm not sure if that was counted in the rooms reserved by Lady Marsh, the lady did say that I had got the last twin room that they had available.

But, deposit paid and looking forward to it. It's been a while since I was up in York, so it'll be good to get back.

Have called today and paid two deposits for myself and Van Der Fett for the dinner.

I have also confirmed details for a twin room on the night of the 31st only, is anybody planning on staying a second night?

Just the 31st for me I'm afraid. I'm going up to see my folks after whatever we do on the 1st. They live in Middlesbrough and I'll be dropping my friend off over that way anyway.

We can stay the 3 night but are wanting to know what everyone is doing. 2 night would be ok. We will book when we know how many night people are staying.

Karen and I are now booked for New Years Eve (31st) and New Years Day (1st)  and of course the gala dinner.

I got a message from Claire at Burn Hall to say they promise to be able to cater for me but not actually able to tell me what was in the dishes on the menu so I could decide.  Not really satisfactory but I guess I have to chance it.

Peter - New Years day is a Saturday  so we thought best to stay NYE and day if you want us to give you a lift both ways since it should'nt interfere with work too much. Burn Hall is only about an hour from you so we should get you home for late morning on the Sunday.

Clare did say she'd already taken some bookings for the party and a booking for a twin, so I'm assuming that's yours Sebastian.  Grin

She also said we've now got the last 2 twins they have, hence why I've had to reserve a double for Peter (are you ok to stop on your own Peter and not share now Sebastian is bringing a friend?).

We will no doubt be staying the 31st and the 1st. We live less than an hour away, but we liked the idea of not having to check out on the morning, when no doubt we'll have stayed up very late the night (morning) before and be nursing hangovers  Cheesy

The 30th we have Trinitytrash and Van Der Fett staying over at ours to keep the costs down. If there are others who wish to stay an additional night, but can't afford to stay at the hotel, you're welcome to stop at ours... I just can't offer a bed, only sofa's or floor space for a blow up I'm afraid...

Tinker, Clare did promise me that they're able and used to catering for people with lots of different dietry requirements, so I'm sure it will be fine. However, I am more than happy to press this with them and obtain full details of ingredients for the meal if you would like me to?

Thanks for the offer but I am old enough and crusty enough to handle it.  I am sure they will sort out my needs but I have no problem being assertive when necessary.  I suspect chef is just being a bit tempramental with her but she seems determined to be helpful. Grin

Yes go ahead and book a twin, I am happy to go solo, but this does allow us to accomodate a latecomer.

Misunderstanding I think Mr Harrow... I wanted to book another twin for you (to allow for a latecomer), but they don't have anymore left, so I've had to secure you a double.

I hope that is acceptable (I wont ask you to share with anybody of course!  Cheesy)?

Well we are  now officially booked in for the 31st and the 1st  Grin

The Lady on the other end of the phone has obviously become quite used to certified lunatics phoning her up concerning strange and bizarre New Years eve costume rituals.  Wink

The house we are currently renting is about 8 miles from York so if anyone needs a lift from York to the hotel on the 31st, or somewhere to bed down for the night before or after the fact, just give us a shout.

Ladies and Gents. We're now passed the cutoff date for deposits, but not to worry, the hotel are still keeping the final room and tickets available for us.  Grin So far, 13 people have booked and paid deposits, but we still seem to have 2 missing (we were expecting 15).

Unfortunately, as I only know some board names and the hotel aren't allowed to tell me the names of who have booked (due to data protection), I'm at a loss in identifying who's still to book/pay, but looking through this thread, I have assumed that it is Lord and Lady Vonricken who are missing.

Lord and Lady Vonricken, if you're still planning to attend the event, please can you arrange payment directly with the hotel asap. If you're not longer able to attend, please let me know asap so the hotel can sell the room/tickets elsewhere.

Thanks

Lady G

Perhaps we should be referring to this as 'Cogmanay', it would be nice to get one or two more people, but we can plan something larger for next year if this works, perhaps take over the hotel if there are enough of us.

Does anyone have any Victorian toys/games suitable for the evening of New Years Day? I have a repro Praxinoscope that we can play with until the children get Praxinoscope shaped eyes.

Perhaps need to get a few more people, otherwise one of us will end up face down in the soup in mysterious circumstances.
