well the weather looks quite changeable for York according to auntie Beeb. with heavy snow showers forecast for Saturday and Sunday. Best to pack the thermals again just to be on the safe side.

weather is delightfully sunny and warm at present, although it's only Thursday admittedly...

Just finished pulling together my outfits 5 in all, although I think I may only wear 4.

A huge thank you to Teri, Chris, Malika, Adam, Kevin, Jane, Peter, Richard, Sharon, Mark, Graham, Rob, Sarah and of course Karen for an absolutely terrific couple of days.  It was immensely enjoyable with too many highlights to mention one but I am sure the rest of you will.

Thanks again.

John

Thank you Tinker and thank to everyone who attended the few days at Burn Hall for the New Year get together. We had a fabulous time and really enjoyed the day out to the antiques fair and the railway museum. Great to meet old friends and really nice to make new ones.

It was a shame it went so quick. We really wanted to go in to York on the 2nd but in the end really glad we went straight home as we run into a blizzard and the roads end became treacherous, it took us a lot longer to get home.
I will get the photo on Flickr tomorrow and put a link on here.

After arriving back yesterday night exhausted from a very entertaining couple of days, I'd just like to add my thanks to the assembled company. How did the safari go after I left? I hope it didn't get too bogged down after the brandy and lovage cordial escapades. Tis indeed a shame that I didn't get to inflict my incredibly alcoholic and strangely fortifying cherry bakewell cocktail on everyone, maybe next time. Actually, scratch that, definately next time. I have a number of photos which I have been too exhausted to upload as yet, but they will be online in the next few days.

Thanks also go to the secret (and not so secret) santas. All of the gifts were lovely and am extremely happy with my new notebook, collecting book, hip flask and shoe shine kit, expect to see the tin on my kit at some point in the future in some new and interesting incarnation. I'll be starting my new goggles in the next few weeks from the compasses (should that be compaii?) I got for a song at the fair. They may turn out hideous, or they may work, point is, I wouldn't have even had the idea if I hadn't have been at the collector's fair.

Did you have to dig the cars out of the car park today?

Thanks to all for an incredibly entertaining 24 hours, a very nice dinner and excellent company all round.

I do apologies for letting my hand slip when pouring the Absinthe (I found my steel jigger on the kitchen counter on returning home today), and I've vowed not to drink random red stuff from volcano-themed bottles ever again Wink

Also, a pleasure to spend the afternoon around York with Tinker, Elsie and Mr Harrow; that clearance warehouse was indeed an Aladdin's cave of goodies; and topped-off the afternoon with a free anthropological show of the local fauna at the mystical Golden Arches  Wink

Marvellous pictures Sir.  This one was however particularly poignant as just a few moments later Digger 4 (left) crashed into the tree.

We shall always remember the loss.

An excellent weekend, sadly have broken New Years Resolution already, have just built a bugle cane, before fully clearing up my house. Have though started to learn the bugle and it will be useful tosound the hunt for those two legged varmints. The Antiques fair proved to be a goldmine.

Excellent  photos there Lord Miles. Although in one of them I seem to have inadvertantly manifested a small amount of ectoplasm in one of the outside shots. I find that happens at the most inoppotune times.

Oh but it was interesting. I'll pop some pics up on Facebook!!!

Suffice to say:

Brandy+lovage cordial was surprisingly excellent.
Absinthe and apple juice actually works really well indeed.
NEVER, EVER, EVER drink red stuff that looks and tastes like cough mixture and comes from a bottle covered in volcanic lava.
If strawberry cream liquer looks like penicillin it doesn't mean it does you good.

The rest is a bit hazy.

It would also be churlish of me to mention one of our number losing control of their legs woudln't it so I'll keep quiet about that Grin

Shame you weren't there man - it was hell!!!

The rest is a bit hazy.

Belgium was a little like that....And they generaly sound more pleasant than the Vodka and Red Bull that friends had me drinking. I find Red Bull foul at the best of times and it does not follow Gin and Tonic that well ! I did however understand how many red tokens it took to obtain Embarrassed

Apologies for the delay in responding... this is the first day I've felt somewhat 'human' since the weekend. And no... that's not due to the 'safari'  Wink but the virus I started with on New Years Day night  Cry

Thank you to everybody who attended the gathering, it was really rather delightful!  Grin

The company was spiffing, the conversation was entertaining and the excursions were a real treat! I'm sorry to say I was a little disappointed with the hotel... the rooms were somewhat 'lacking' (I was hoping for more period features being based on a Victorian Manor House) and some of the service wasn't great (being forgotton on the separate room on NYE wasn't much fun...), but the company made up for it all!!!  Grin

Outfits of course were all a wonder!  Cheesy  I'm not sure my NYE outfit created the desired effect... being known as the 'bride' by most of the other guests all evening wasn't really my intention... but I have been kicking myself ever since that I didn't take advantage of the fact!!  Roll Eyes I'm just too honest!!  Grin

Ah yes... that would be our offerings to the cocktail party then!!  Grin I said I was bringing something 'unusual'  Wink I hope we get invited next time - I promise we'll bring something a little less 'odd' next time  Cheesy

Hello all, just to say as ever what a most marvellous time both Sharon and myself had over the time of New Year with you wonderful people. Apologies for a late reply but Sharon and myself are currently snowbound in France and have just got an internet connection back!

Thanks to every one again for a great and fun few days, though too short as always. The times as always were great, as Tinker said, a few too many to recount for prosperity. Though a few spring to mind: The tragic loss of a dirigible, a well dressed ensemble, the blind leading the partially sighted and a strange red volcanic liquid (of which I'm glad I did not imbibe the Absinthe and apple was more than man enough for me!)

Major, your Brandy and Lovage was a spectacular concoction which I heartily recommend. On the point of cocktails Myself and Sharon owe you all a round of an extravagantly opulent beverage to make Her Maj proud.

Also to Lord Harrington, thanks again for your great photo journal of the evening and cheers for the Bokeh.
