it would be useful to know who is coming to the Hall and who else plans to join the strollette round B'ham and the market earlier. I'd suggest we'd need to leave for Aston Hall between 5.30 and 6, depending on how much time we want to spend at the hog roast etc there. I'd say maybe a couple of hours to look sound the market before then, and a bit before that if we fancy a go on the wheel or anything else.
So potential meetup times could be: 2-ish for a wider look round B'ham, go on the wheel, etc. 3.30-ish to hit the market. 5.30-ish to go to Aston Hall. And then whatever people's availability or travel schedule permits...
(I'm also still trying to confirm exactly what time Himself will need to be at the Hall for his performances (update: he will no longer be one of the defencers outside the hall, but will now have a bantering role inside instead)).
Any thoughts or suggestions?

I have a ticket for the hall and I will be coming to the perambulation around the markets beforehand. 2-ish suits me absolutely fine, if everybody can arrange somewhere to meet where.. I was about to say 'we can see each other in the crowd'

Persons intending to travel by open carriage should select a seat with their backs to the engine, by which means they will avoid the ashes emitted therefrom, that in travelling generally, but particularly through the tunnels, prove a great annoyance; the carriage farthest from the engine will in consequence be found the most desirable.

are you arriving into new street station, sir? That may be a likely place, depending on how others plan to travel.

According to the timetable I shall be arriving at New Street at about 12:45 (Virgin permitting ) and will find myself irresistibly drawn toward food and drink... There is apparently a custard factory nearby... ....Which apparently has nothing to do with custard anymore...... blast....

You'd be welcome! Tickets for the Hall are sold out, but there's still the afternoon in Birmingham...

The custard factory is the former home of Bird's, but the only yellow stuff therein at present is likely to be enbalming fluid, as that's where bodies revealed exhibition is! However there are other eateries aplenty, not least the german delicacies on the market, or the pies and mash at the mash house, or the middle eastern variety at zaragoza's etc etc... I can get in for 1, I should thinnl, to help you seek gastronomic fulfillment, if that helps...

Why thank you, however there is no need to rush yourself, the train will probably be late anyway (virgin) and the mash house looks interesting for lunch.....

I can make it for 1 no problems. London Midland being what it is I usually try to catch a train running at least an hour earlier than I need to. It's the only way I can reasonably hope the railway company to get me where I need to be at anything even remotely resembling 'on time'...

So far, then, we have:
Sir A Poiselamppe arriving 12.45 Mr Harrison arriving 13.00 or 14.00-ish Himself and I arriving 13.00 or 14.00-ish (Himself being quite taken with the idea of pie and mash- also available at the old joint stock) Mr Bellows and family meeting up at 16.00-ish at the market (with understanding father waiting in the car)
Is there anyone else joining us for either Aston Hall or the B'ham afternoon?

we will miss you both.
Himself and I aim to be at new street station for 1, where we can meet Sir Poiselamppe and mr Harrison if he is so inclined, following which we can go in search of mash...
I suggest we meet at the main entrance to make it easier. We will hover near Burger King. We'll be the ones in the hats...

Right then, I'll catch the train that gets me to Birmingham at 12.40 (if London Midland deign to run it). Look out for someone in white tie...

It was nice to see you both for lunch and the German market, the only downside being the lonnnng journey to Aston hall due to football crowds I'm sorry that I didn't get to speak to Mr Bellows, although I may have chatted with 1 of the cogglings in the room with the Tiger!! Hope you all have awonderful Christmas.

Yes, I agree with all of the above, despite the rain, the crowds and the football fans, it was a very pleasant day. People in Birmingham seemed very receptive to us throughout the day - the only slight drawback was being mistaken for staff at Aston Hall on several occasions. Sir Poiselamppe, Mr Harrison and Kiroshi, it was a pleasure to meet you all, and Mr Bellows, always a pleasure to see you and the family again. After you left I went back in to watch the fencing again, and am currently trying to upload a video of it, so that those who missed it will get the chance (since we only caught then end due to our late arrival). I was then escorted round the house by the fencers, and introduced to Prince Albert. The gentleman with him (with the ponytail, spoke to Mr Bellows and cogling earlier about goggles etc - unfortunately didn't catch his name) expressed his disappointment that you'd all had to leave so early as he was hoping for a photo op downstairs. I have uploaded my photos to facebook here: http://www.facebook.com/home.php?ref=home#/album.php?aid=33424&id=1623995724I'll post the video link once it finishes rendering or whatever it's doing...

And in short order, here's the link to the video of the fencing:
Sadly my viewpoint wasn't the best, and it was a mobile phone video cam from a distance, but hopefully you can get the gist!

Indeed fine time was had by all, despite the rain and the crowds ....(oh the crowds) it was lovely to see you all... the only downside is that I left my Umbrella at Aston station, due to the rush I was in.... However the 'Photos from the day are here http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=140511&id=639895918 ....including those of the charming (and well dressed) party we drank Pimms with...

Sir Poiselamppe, it may be worth contacting the station to see if they have retrieved your umbrella. They are managed by London Midland and the number is: 0121 634 2040

Just to Echo what everyone else has already said..... Wonderful time, Wonderful place (Aston Hall that is !!), Lovely people (Great to meet two fellow forum members for the first time) Wonderful beverages in the bar (Hmmmmmm !!) Its just a pity that THOSE RUDDY IDIOTS FROM THE VILLA GROUND BLOCKED OFF THE RUDDY ROADS TO THE HALL Apart from that we all had a wonderful time (including my Father, God bless 'im & his automobile *hic*) I'll be showing off the photos that were took as soon as I can. Its been rather busy since I left Aston Hall two days ago !!! The gentleman with him (with the ponytail, spoke to Mr Bellows and cogling earlier about goggles etc - unfortunately didn't catch his name) expressed his disappointment that you'd all had to leave so early as he was hoping for a photo op downstairs.
A Missed photo opportunity with a "Professional" actor ?? ...Damn, I'm besides myself with Dismal !!
