the meet-up time is flexible, depending on when people think they might be able to arrive. As one living locally I can be there for any time... So my opening offer is 2:00-ish- any advances or retreats from that hour happily received...

(still not sure if there's an ice-rink in b'ham this year, although there are carousel rides on the market, and possibly canal boat trips as well...)

Karoshi - TBC

Not sure i'll be in town during the day, though i'll keep an eye on the thread to see if I can make it to a meet-up time/place.

However, I've booked my ticket for 5th December at 6:30pm so I shall be there to represent the BrassGoggles plain-clothes investigatory branch Smiley

I lie pretty near Birmingham these days, so why not? Won't be able to get into the hall, alas, but will definitely be able to do the market.

Would people mind a mention of this on the Steampunk Network?  Make up for my not being able to attend, begging the excuse of distances and finance...

Welcome aboard, Mr Dreyman, I've added you to the list!  Keep an eye on the thread for when a meet-up time is agreed.

Just for everyone's info, the entertainment at Aston Hall is not usually limited to the Hall itself.  The defencers, including Himself, perform outside to entertain those in the queue.  There's also usually a couple of marquees - a craft one, and something a bit food-like.  These can be visited by people who aren't going into the hall if necessary, enabling them to meet up with the rest both before and after the Hall visit - just in case anyone needs any other options!

I'm also finding out what else is on in Birmingham on that day to help decide on meet-up time.  So far I've found that there's a Christmas event on at the museum of the jewellery quarter; and the great Santa fun run is also on.  How can you resist?

As if that's not enough, today I discovered that Impero Leather London have a shop in the Oasis Alternative shop!

I'm fine with this - not really had time to look at the Steampunk Network site, though!

Ahh but Oasis is merely a shadowy wraith of itself these days, why I remember when you had to employ a guide to prevent yoourself becoming lost in the depths of that establishment...not to mention the hordes of lost shoppers they found when the place was desecrated refurbished  Wink

Yes, it seemed to take much less time to get round the whole place yesterday than I remember from my youth. (which was obviously not so long ago, ahem).

I believe on saturday I may be sleeping off the effects of my Birthday, however should this not be the case, I will drop by the market, for a spot of steamy gluhwein drinking- I imagine despite crowds it will be still possible to spot steampunks!

By curious coincidence, the Cruxshadows are playing at Eddie's on Friday 4th December... must be Fate trying to tell me to get a hotel room rather than head home at silly o'clock in the morning, only to return to Birmingham the next morning!  Cheesy

Happy Birthday to you, and I'll add you to the list as a possible.  Gluhwein may be worth trying as a hair of the dog type remedy.
And yes, you may be able to spot us fairly easily...

I'll confess my ignorance about the Cruxshadows, and retire to do some research...

I hadn't heard of the Aston Hall event before I started looking into it.  Then I found a page on the BBC's website on it.  The link to buy tickets didn't say too much, but boy this makes it sound amazing:

"Visitors will be able to wander through the grand state rooms, along the magnificent oak lined Long Gallery and down to the servants' quarters and kitchens.

The 17th century will be brought to life by a range of entertainers including music from Diabolus in Musica, costumed performers Bear Faced Cheek, Pattern 23 and the English Civil War Society.

Outdoors, there will be a period craft fayre, sword fighting, juggling and refreshments including fine ale and a pig roast."

That on top of the Christmas Fair?  I'm so jealous!
