Yay Dragon*con! This will only be my second time going, was the BG crowd meeting up at all? Maybe a BG group photo like at the World's Fair? There is much to prepare. ^_^

We could just do what we ended up doing last year: pick a major hotel lobby bar and a night everyone will want to be in their steamy best, anyway, like maybe the night of the costume contest.

So I think it was last year, I got a little booklet in the mail with the *entire* D*Con schedule. Has anyone seen anything like that so far or know if something like that might arrive. I wasn't even registered that year. I'm specifically curious about a few non-steampunk tracks. It's a bit of a struggle to figure out when everything is going on. It feels too much like work, as does my sewing right now!

They usually print and send those out about a week or so before the con.

Dragon*Con send out a small booklet called the Prgress report. It normally give a break down of guests and tracks. About one week before the convention the Pocket Program is placed on the web. D*C waits till the last thing to finalize the programing. This is due to last minute additions and cancellations. At the Convention things change so these are posted on the "Daily Dragon".

You do realize this isn't the World's Fair.. it is a wee bit larger. Finding each other for an opportunistic moment such as this would be a challenge.. we might want to organize now, but that's just me and my fabulously neurotic mind..

I thought the same thing last year, and tried to get all organizational about it -- seriously, satellite imagery was involved. If anyone wants to give that another go, I'd welcome them to try, but I think we can make it work again going the path of least resistance. I hear tell the Weston (where most of the SP programming will be hosted) is pretty swanky looking, so the big lobby bar (assuming they have one) might be a logical choice. And if I can holler over the crowd in the Hyatt to let everyone know its picture time, I can pull it off, well, anywhere.

Seems like after the big guiness record photo would be a good time to round people up if people are planning on trying to be around for that photo. Honestly, that huge photo is something that if I get there, I get there.

Do you want it to get shown off in photos amongst other steampunks all dressed to the 9s as well? Do you want to get photos by some of the convention's best photographers? Want a shot of maybe getting in the Guinness Book of Records? If you said yes to any of these questions, then you need to be at <b>Westin Peachtree Ballroom at 4:00 PM Saturday the 4th of September dressed in your steampunk best.</b> You will be able to meet up with others dressed their best, photos will be taken, and then I will take on the task of posing you in the most epic, biggest steampunk group shot ever attempted in the world. We have a good hour and I know it can be done and look fabulous. The FB event page : http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=143583059015386<b>What is steampunk, you ask?</b> http://www.tor.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=blog&id=58009And here are some steampunk style suggestions: http://community.livejournal.com/steamfashion/929255.html<b>Are you a photographer going to Dragon Con? </b> Do you have a camera of some sort? Do you want to take photos of the steampunk at Dragon Con? This event has been made just for you. This is your opportunity to have them all in one spot to shutter bug to your heart's content. So bring your camera, hand held lights or what not and come take photos. Get award winning shots, meet some of the best costumers and set up shoots for later on. Take this great opportunity to have fun and make art. If you said yes to these two things then on <b>Saturday, September 4, be at the Westin Peachtree Ballroom at 4pm bring your cameras and your best steampunk dress</b>. At AROUND 4:30ish I will start to mold you and shape you into a mass of wonder so that the most epic steampunk group photo can be taken to rival any ever taken before anywhere in the world! So come one, come all and meet people who like the same stuff you do and take part in the photo fun! Great photos from last year http://www.flickr.com/groups/dragoncon_steampunk_2009/pool/<b>Saturday, September 4th, 4pm-5pm http://www.dragoncon.org/http://www.chronotrack.orghttp://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=143583059015386The Westin Peachtree Plaza, Atlanta 210 Peachtree St Atlanta, GA 30303 United States Google maps tells you where to go here! http://maps.google.com/places/us/ga/atlanta/peachtree-st-nw/210/-the-westin-peachtree-plaza?gl=us</b> </center>

I am mostly packed now. Maybe this year there will be no last minute packing like the last 20 years. More than likely not, I got a trend going! I do have a list this year. Please do not tell anyone. They might put me in charge of something.

Anyone know about that Weird West movie that's debuting at DragonCon? I met one of the actors in it the other day rather briefly..

Does anyone at all have space for a single person in their room? I don't need a bed but I just need a place to store stuff, sleep for a few hours, and shower. I'm very small, I keep my stuff pretty much in a corner and I don't make much noise at all. While I would prefer one of the main hotels, I feel like it's too late to really be too picky and I'll take what I can get as long as I have some way to get from wherever the room is to the con. I don't have much to offer (some money but that can be discussed in PM).
My other room arrangements fell through last minute but I don't want to give up on the con.

For those going for the first time, get ready for one great experience. The sheer amount of creative talent, entertaining characters, and educational opportunities under one roof is staggering. Most tracks unto themselves are worth the price of admission. I myself could go and do nothing but the filmmaker's track, or the writer's track, or - of course - the alt-history track and walk away perfectly satisfied. The biggest conundrum is being forced to choose between interests. Every turn of a corner brings something new. A pounding drum circle featuring impromptu bellydancers dressed like Slave Leias. The guy dressed as Indiana Jones walking down the street blaring his own John Williams soundtrack from a hidden speaker. Peoplewatching as Jedi, Colonial Marines, Master Shake, and zombiefied Disney princesses walk by. Randomly stumbling across some talented person you admire (for me it was Felicia Day and Faith and the Muse). Getting to ask your favorite writers direct questions about how they work. It's all surreal and a downright blast. I'm excited for the photo shoot. Should be a fun bit of anarchy trying to get all of these clockwork ducks in a row. I hope to put some real faces and voices to the friends and acquaintances I've met online. Throughout the *Con, you'll likely catch me peddling my new CD of steamy music. If you'd like one, just look for the painted drum that'll be in my hands or on my person. See you all there! Only three days left!

HAHAHA! Would y'all believe that I totally dropped the ball somewhere and, well... didn't put in for time off work until today? I hear that, Utini! Last week, when I reminded my boss that I would be away for D*C, he claimed that this was the first he'd heard of it, we'd never discussed it, bwawk bwawk bwawk. I think my head exploded, and after I cleaned up all of the pieces, and quoted to him several conversations that we had on the subject, he grudgingly wrote the dates down in his calendar.

For some reason Bosses forget about Dragon*Con. It happened to me twice. I had the paper work in order and quickly showed it to them. I think it is do to the fact they can not understand geekdom. Unless they are a scifi fan too, they ignor it.

I try to make sure it comes up at least quarterly, that way its not a surprise. Nothing keeps DragonCon in a bosse's mind quite like bringing new toy ray guns to work every few months.
