While I was at Chattacon, Arcattack said they will be at Dragon*Con this year. I have a feeling Steampunk is going to be extremely huge this year. The track director is already working hard on some steamy madness. She is keeping it secret so far.
*grin* I can tell you that I've been promised a bigger room this year...for both the track and the Time Traveler's Ball...

Woot! (I've no idea what could be done about it, but I really hope they find some way to make the lines less freakin' awful this year. I literally attended NO panels, balls, or any event of any kind before midnight last year, because I won't stand in line for 2+ hours.)

Woot bigger rooms! I don't mind waiting in line for tracks and things. It's worth it for me to stand in line for 3 hours to see/meet one of my idols for an hour.

Wow. Your last sentence made so little sense to me, I had to read it three times to make sure it was English.
It was bad enough last year that the thought of not doing the con at some point actually entered my mind. Not long, of course, I don't really go for the panels anyway, but going an entire con without actually doing ANYTHING kinda got me wondering.
Actually, the bloody lines may have something to do with me not really wanting to be welcoming of the tourists.

it is OK to tell me when its time to shut up Shut up. On a related note, I'm glad we're going to have bigger rooms and the like, but I don't mind the lines at all really, for the same reasons Pennie gave and others. I'm just generally a patient person and not really in a rush. I like experiences and soaking them up.

Well, I like to experiences, too, but --- now, you are probably right. I'll just shut up now.

My Dragon*Con experience has a lot to deal with lines. Lots and lots of lines. Some of the people I met in the lines have turned out to be good friends now. Its all part of the convention experience. The only lines I don't like are the ones to get into the convention <registration>. They are working on improving registration for next year.

I know about the lines! I waited 2+ hours this past year to get Terry Gilliam's autograph..it was worth it though! The line for Adam Savage was long, but was very well managed and moved very quickly. I'm glad to hear that the Time Traveler's Ball is getting more space- I hope Arc Attack returns!

If I had my druthers, ArcAttack would be doing several shows, not just the MadSci ball.....I just would like others to be able to experience the visceral thrill I had seeing them in '07, in a dark room.

I do not not see that happening. The number of bands at Dragon*con only affords one time performance in a major venue. They did start the acoustic sets in a non venue area. I liked enjoyed the acoustic set Abney Park did.

I wonder how big a Tesla coil it would take to arc between the Hyatt and the Marriott? I bet we could get a permit and it would be fun to watch as it zap passing taxi's. They say they are going to get a overpass <hamster tube> between Hyatt and Marriott. That will be zapped too. The best view would be Weston restaurant. The only trouble with that is it moves but that ok I can too. I bet that would make national news.

Oh, wait, the parade is out in the Big Blue Room....

A direct tube from Hyatt to Marriott? Superb! Remember the Marriott to Hilton tube was promised for years before it happened. I am warning not to hold your breath.

But if I don't hold my breath and turn blue, how will I force them to comply with this most excellent plan?! Still, here's hoping it's sooner than later. I have a vision of the entire downtown district linked by a maze of HabiTrails at various levels above the street.....

While they have not yet gotten to the point of swinging any tools, they are (unless something came up and they had to revisit the deal, which can happen) past the contract phase of the new tubes.

Yay! I was hoping there would be a Dragon_Con thread on here somewhere. 2009 Dragon_Con was awesome!! I hope to see all of you there this year. If everyone is dressing out, we could get together for the parade this year and have a steampunk section. Anywho, I am very excited for this years Con.

We will indeed have a steampunk presence in the Parade (this will be its third year)

Excellent! Sorry I didn't notice there was a steampunk bit in the parade because I was with the horror section this last year. Also, they kind of had us all scattered everywhere. I was amazed at how it organized itself once the parade started. I thought it was gonna be a mess.

Yes, every year I am amazed by how all the seemingly random sections of marchers get assembled into the Parade! Anyway, find the steampunks and march with us this year. It's fun. This past year, the Extraordinary Contraptions played music out of the back of my truck.
