I see you are able to solder/braze your components together. I have purchased brazing gear with MAPP gas and oxygen, but all my experiments so far have resulted in vaporizing the brass. I can braze iron things together quite nicely, but the torch is too hot for brass.

Wonderful design and execution !
About the circuit board showing; I believe that the scientists and inventors of the Victorian era were on the cutting edge of technology for the day. Were they pursuing theire creative endeavours today they would surely use the technology of today as they did in the past.
Should we dare call this piece "Steampunk Nouveau" ?
