Greetings fellow Steampunks. Work has started on next year's event. I would sincerely appreciate it if people do not immediately launch in asking questions and making suggestions etc but instead allow us a bit of space to actually get things underway. The first piece of news is here...we have posted a questionnaire for performers which can be downloaded from the Asylum website http://steampunk.synthasite.com. The purpose of the questionnaire is for us to gather the information on the various potential acts for us to decide who we can include on the bill. We would appreciate potential performers completing the questionnaire and sending it to us as soon as possible. If you are not a performer but you have a favourite act that you would like to see play the Asylum then feel free to pass the questionnaire on to them. Best wishes. Tinker

Welcome back, Major! I'll leave all major decisions and organisational decisions in your more than capable hands! Your willing servant Tinker, always best if people take a little time to think through their ideas before submitting them for consideration. Better to come with something fully formed to the Major, unless one already has a track record in this area. Dr Q's track record, mean't he could stage Albert and the Lion, it required relatively little technical support and was written and performed by him, meaning he could control all the variables and guarantee a good performance. Ideas, we have plenty, execution of those ideas not so much. For example at Contemplation in Chester, we had the offer of a serious original play, a first for Eastercon, but the writer/Director, already had a track record, a mostly completed play, and an experienced cast. We got this three months before the Con was due to take place. Herr Doktor, did you intend to pun "major decisions".

Sorry it's taken me so long to find this thread.
Looking forward to it already! As other people have already said, we trust your judgement in doing the right thing and WILL be there.
If I may be so bold, the performances and workshops (and location) of The Asylum 2009 were all tremendous, but it was the people that made it- if I could have bottled the atmosphere, I would. And the act of keeping 500 people happy is a very subtle skill that requires a lot of forethought and planning, the like of which the average person doesn't have a clue about, or the effort it takes to make these things run smoothly.
Which is why we leave it to the experts and simply enjoy the result!

That all seems excellent and still very reasonably priced. Replying mainly to keep tabs on this topic.
Thank you again Major!

I'm chomping at the bit to buy my golden ticket. As has been said, it was the people and the atmosphere which made the weekend so special, rather than any individual act or event.
You know, if I had the money, I'd be sorely tempted to buy half-a-dozen golden tickets and hide them in chocolate bars.
Please forgive me if I transgress, Major, but I do have a request: Could the buffet cater for us vegetarians? I'm sure the food from the barbecue was lovely, but there was nothing for those of us who'd forgone flesh. I got very hungry over the weekend, having little knowledge of the town and little time to explore it to find suitable food outside of cheese sandwiches from the nearby newsagents.

Mister Fox,
Ohhh chocolate..... with steampunk tickets ...... yes please.
On the Saturday BBQ at Charlotte House there were two veggie options, A spicy Bean burger and a most tasty vegtable kebab with a minted yogurt dressing which I ate, I cant remember what Fridays option was as I was in a haze of steam from all the lovely people assembled at the Victoria/Castle gate. We had asked that there be a veggie option on both BBQ's and will be making the same request again for the BBQ's and the Buffet.
Yours Lady Elsie.

Im afraid the only veggie option on the friday BBQ was onions in a bun. There was two basic options - burger or a sausage. Im afraid my partner and i didnt realise there was another BBQ on the saturday lol..but didnt mind as we'd found a fanatastic tearoom in town lol. But yes would be preferable to have that option for the buffets.
