It is very nice to find you here Mike. As steampunks we pride ourselves on being polite and friendly and I hope you don't feel we are criticising your fine establishment in any way at all.
It is always a pleasure to vist Bothams whether en masse as on Saturday or individually. We always look forward to calling. We do appreciate the hard work your staff put in. They were also without exception very very friendly and welcoming too. Please thank them all for us.
Undoubtedly we would like to visit again in April and I am sure we will make contact with you directly once we have recovered from our weekend.
It was great to see so many friendly faces at Whitby this last weekend. We have been offered a venue for April where we can concentrate steampunk traders and stage a couple of gigs on Friday and Saturday nights. The few people I managed to talk to about it actually at Whitby were all very supportive of the idea. I am a little reticient because I don't want people to perceive us as muscling in or contributing to any factional politics. The invitation to do this was from one of the two factions. I wish to speak to the "other side" as it were to try to avoid any ll feeling. Comments on the idea would be very welcome.
Missing you all already so who is going to the local mets in Nottingham and Sheffield this weekend too!
Tinker

If you have had enough of tea & cake and/or fish n' chips when you're at Whitby, may I humbly recommend that you give the Pie and Mash shop on the other side of the bridge just over the road from Mr. Chips a try.
I can heartily recommend it (seeing as the wait for fish and chips was ridiculously long in all of the better establishments we decided to try something diferent). 40's atmosphere Homemade pies with mash and 'free range' peas topped with OXO gravy. I had the steak and stout and let me tell you, the steak was soooo tender. The lady Inkerman had the Hommity pie and said that it was so good, she went back in the afternoon to pick some up for the next day.
Give it a go, it's great! (I am in no way affiliated with the pie and mash shop or any of its affiliates)

then please do contact us to make preliminary arrangements. You never know, there may be something we can do to help you all enjoy the afternoon. We will of course call to make full arrangements for April as we did this year, but it seems the booking for 50 at 3pm made by Sir Ninian Marsh one month prior to the event was not known of by your staff as our Waitress explained when we placed our order. Bothams has become a tradition prior to my time in the community and I am sure it will continue for a lot longer, especially for the gingerbread and Wensleydale on my part.

Yes, we are very pleased indeed that someone was kind enough to drop in a couple of days before to let us know. Thank goodness you did! We have no idea what happened to the original booking as no one here knew anything about it? We immediately made plans to have more cakes and scones available and to stay open later should you need longer to feed everyone. I am delighted that you enjoy Whitby Gingerbread with Wensleydale, as it is a firm family favourite in our house!
By the way, the lady on the left of this post is Elizabeth Botham and doesn't look at all out of place in here does she!?

Not in the slightest.. I imagine she would be extremely proud to know her establishment was still as genteel today as it was back in the day.

i myself very much enjoyed my jacket potato and much needed cup of tea after spending an hour and a half in a mini with sir edward ichabod pennyworth at the wheel looking for a parking space! our fellow passengers were most patient but i think we were all in much need of botham's refreshments. your staff were great and one og your waitresses inparticualr was most helpful to us. i'm looking forward to april, i'm ordering a vanilla slice instead of being good!
i had a great weekend guys and can't wait for april. missing you all already!

Hello all, I was wondering if a Sunday 'Hangover cure brunch" at our Skinner St. tearooms from say, 10am to 2pm would be of interest? Start with a stiff Bloody Mary as a hair of the dog, followed by a good old Yorkshire fry-up of bacon, eggs, sausage, black pudding etc. Plus toast, tea or coffee. What do you think? Any interest? Best regards, Mike

Dear Lady Elsie, Please may I add that if there is sufficient interest, I will confirm that we are to go ahead and open on Sunday (April weekend) on here. Also, I will restrict information about this to this forum to allow S.P. friends to comment first. Best wishes, Mike

May I just add that when a day, date and time is fixed, someone needs to pre-book the tearoom with Bothams.
They can then make sure there are enough sandwiches made, cakes baked and tea brewing for everyone. It also helps with their staff rota. After 3pm is usually quieter for them, so making sure they don't operate on a skeleton crew is most important.
We did this in April and they were most appreciative. I can't remember the name of the lady we spoke to now, who put it in The Book, but my friend Jon may do. Will have to check with him.
*EDIT* it may have helped to have spent more time reading thro' the thread, I do apologise. Didn't realise that Botham's had already posted! I think I got the thread back-to-front somewhere along the line ...

As I remember it, Bothams is usually closed on a Sunday, so I guess they are kindly offering to open especially for our Steampunk meeting if there are enough of us interested to make it worth them doing so. This sounds like a great idea as last October there were so many of us that we couldn't all get settled for ages because of the amount of general public in there. It would be great if we had Bothams reserved for us Steampunks so we could have a more condusive soiree. Splendid! Hope I have got this correct??

Well thank you all for replying. Up to now it looks as though about 14 of you want to take brunch. Obviously, we would need quite a few more to make it work. (Sunday hours for staff of course)
We are proposing a fixed menu only. The normal menu will not be available - sorry. We will offer a Reviver Brunch. Bloody Mary or Fresh Fruit Juice Bacon, Sausage, Black Pudding, Mushrooms, Tomato, Fried Egg and (Beans Possibly) A table with a selection of Breads and Croissants, Preserves, Marmalade. Coffee with refill or a Pot of Tea. Cost will be approximately £10 per head, or a bit more if we include the Bloody Mary of course. (£12.50) Available from 10am to 2pm. Have we forgotten anything? I feel sure that you will understand, but please can I just say, that we won't be open just for a coffees on the Sunday and we would expect all guests to partake in the Hangover Reviver. More details on booking/menu etc later. In the mean time, please do post here with your intention so I can get a feel for numbers.
Many thanks. Mike Jarman

Actually that looks jolly good, and as we're staying somewhere notoriously bad for breakfast, AND you start serving at 10am, a much more civilised hour put me down for 2.

Thanks for letting me know. Please keep them coming! However, I will officially let you all know if we are going to be open on this forum and ask you to formally book with our Cafe Manageress. (we may be able to accept some people on the day, but I strongly recommend that you book) Anyway, more details later. Mike ps. I am really delighted that you approve of the idea and look forward to seeing you.

Jolly good show! Always rather disappointed Bothams is closed on the Sunday, so this rectifies this wonderfully! My dearest other has already confirmed our attendance (Sir Ninian), so please don't count me as an additional... but I'm definately game for this! We do have a couple or so of friends who are staying with us but not members of this forum, so I would highly expect them to attend this soiree also! Suggest you add another 4 'potentials'... Just a quick question in addition... are the Steampunks still welcome on the Saturday for afternoon tea, or is this 'instead' of? I seem to recall the possibility of Bothams staying open a little later, so that we wouldn't overflow, or upset the locals... rather spiffing idea I thought! I do realise however that this may be difficult to staff if you've got them in on Sunday also... We can't go to Whitby weekend without afternoon tea at Bothams! What!!??
