You do have to wait until around half-way through the video for the in-game footage, but for many I believe it will be worth the wait.

Sweet! I loved the original Guildwars, and the Asura looks awesome.  Grin

Thanks for putting this up.

I enjoyed the original game but never REALLY got into it. Still, the second looks as promising as the first, but seems to be stealing/borrowing a LOT of ideas from WoW.

Well maybe because it is made by some of the same people. (WoW-Guild Wars that is)

I'm using some images from that trailer as my desktop now.  Grin

I believe Guild Wars is developed by ArenaNet, and World of Warcraft by Blizzard, no?

You are correct yes, but ArenaNet's staff is made up of ex-Blizzard employees.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guildwars

Go down to "Development" and it will say: "Guild Wars is the first game created by developer ArenaNet. Senior developers from Blizzard Entertainment, some involved in the early development of World of Warcraft."

They also made Diablo and (I think) Starcraft. The developers that is. Wink

Indeed, I play Guild Wars alot, and there are some steampunk influences here and there, mostly with the Asura who have a kind of magical technology.

The Clockwork Scythe also comes to mind.

I played Guild Wars heaps, I've got all the expantions...and various magic powered technologies have appeared all through the games, naturally reaching a pinacle with the Asuran tech.

I was never much of a PvP player and quickly got bored of elite areas, I mostly played the game for the storyline, and once I had finished every storyline to the 3 games + Eye of the North I kinda ran out of things to do and stopped playing, but that is by no means to say I didn't get my moneys worth, I'm sure I clocked up a few thousand hours.
 Lips sealed

Guild Wars has always been more of an RPG which happens to be online to me rather than an MMO. While you did have massive meeting areas in the towns the actual gameplay was far more akin to a standard RPG multiplayer.

I've always had the worry that Guild Wars 2 would try to become a WoW clone in order to simply cash in, but with the now fairly long running success of the original series I really glad they are sticking to their own style. While they are moving the game into the "one massive world for everyone" format they are keeping the strong storylines and most importantly keeping the game without fees.

I can see myself getting the Guild Wars 2 Collectors Edition, if only to get another of the amazing artwork books. Even if you utterly hate the gameplay and/or graphics you've got to conceed that Guild Wars has some of the best artwork ever to come along with a video game.

My goodness I need to get saving up for my new PC, I'm currently 2/3s of the way to my target.

Ok, it turns out the Charr, one of the races that'll be playable in GW2 will be very steampunk. In the original GW, they were mainly tribal, nomadic, with very little technology. Alot like orcs, but instead of green-skinned humanoids, they are giant, violent cats  Grin Anyways, looks like they've grown to be very technological, not as much as the Asura, more industrial-looking.

One of their main cities will be the Iron Citadel, which you can see in the trailer, looks like an industrial city with gears everywhere!

Here's some pictures of the Charr and their technology. The one with the bazooka isn't particularly steamy, but it's an awesome example of modern-ish technology in a more fanciful industrial setting, which is fairly steampunk to me. The picture is also awesome. And then there's the pic of the Charr with the flamethrower, which is another awesome pic of awesomeness.(sorry, if I'm overusing the word awesome, I just like the idea of 10-foot tall pyromaniac steampunk cats  Grin) Love it's glowing goggles!
