Dammit, Sir. To many bands there. So overwhelming. It's most certainly going to effect my wallet. I know, i know. I meant, a music can be kinda creepy and funny in the same time. Like Stolen Babies or Tayobo.
You should check out "Creature Feature" they are totally creepy and fun at the same time. All of their music sounds like it came from The Nightmare Before Christmas. Thank you, Sir; I'd never heard of them before now. This group of talented artists is excellent. As a big fan of TNbC I must say you are correct, this music is in that vein. This has made my day. Like RVB mentioned, the Greatest Show on Earth is very intriguing.

My two favorite, most recent acquisitions have already been mentioned: Two Man Gentleman Band and Voltaire.
How can one not laugh at chipper little ditties about the Hindenburg disaster and getting it on with zombie prostitutes?

What we need is a good steampunk barbershop quartet (think Sweeney Todd) able to subvert lyrics to conventional songs in a humerous fashion, for example the wholesome American Pie, becomes decidely unwholesome in the context of the Demon Barber of Fleet Street, or the barbers solo in the Barber of Seville, " I have a finger in every pie".Please see recent postings on the Steampunk Filk thread.
That would totally rock. Like a steampunk Richard Cheese.

I recently did some investigation into the ‘what is Steampunk music debate and conclude it’s pretty much anything you want to be Steampunk if you get agreement from at least one other person. I put together a collection of everything I could find that was ‘Steampunk’, ‘Sepia’ or just plain quirky enough to fit the bill. Amongst these, and in no particular order of merit or favouritism (unless stated) I would suggest…
Abney Park (the obvious) Vernian Process (the ethereal) Unextraordinary Gentlemen (I think this band may have invented ‘Steamo’) Voltaire (a clown with good tunes) Paul Roland (in an quirky English psychedelia kind of way) Trousseaux (nothing wrong with a bit of French) Hopeful Machines (tending towards the techno sometimes) The Synthetic Dream Foundation (simply because I love the name) Gogol Bordello (actually ‘Gypsy Punk’ but what the heck…) The Great Bertholini’s (from Hungary and recommended if you like Gogol Bordello) Stan Ridgway (if you check out his more recent recordings) Quitzow (American experimental electronics with cellos) Dresden Dolls (obviously) Ghostfire (great set at The Asylum) The Damned (yes, honestly, check out the new LP) The Clockwork Quartet (especially ‘The Doctor’s Wife’ with typewriter rhythms) The Cleaners From Venus (some of Martin Newell’s best stuff) J.C. Carroll (He used to be in The Members now has a more ‘folk/punk’ style) Xtc (because they are the greatest band in the Universe)
Oh...and The Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band.
…and, by the way, has anyone heard anything by KK & The Steampunk Orchestra and would you recommend it.

That's a good start. And the Vernian Process guy posted a compilation on his Blog site. But is fun finding old records in the collection and thinking 'this could be Steampunk'.

Well technically... we are "Steamwave", which is a combination of Darkwave, New Wave, Post-Punk, Trip-Hop, Industrial, Neo-Classical, and of course Steampunk. But we do have a few more Ethereal pieces. It's so nice to find that I'm not alone any more. For the past ten years I've been convinced I'm the only one who still listened to the Bonzo's, apart from my father. And, of course, The Rutles.
I'm a little surprised by your inclusion of the Dresden Dolls. Are they mocking themselves?

If only I had some degree of natural musical ability, I would suggest forming The Clockwork Dog Do-Dah Band--a Steampunk tribute to the Bonzos.
And looking very relaxed, Jules Vern on vibes.

Ladies, Gentlemen...good evening to you all.
I'll throw this artist out there: When I want to feel a little ol' timey in an American way, I always find good times in the company of a bottle of ale and any Compact Disquette by Leon Redbone.
Regards, Rob

It's probably already been mentioned, but you can check out Clockwork Cabaret's show online and see what you think about that.

And it's worth hunting out some of the more vaudeville offerings from the Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band. "Hello Mabel", "Tubas in the moonlight", "Jollity Farm", "My Brother Makes The Noises For The Talkies", "I'm Going To Bring A Watermelon To My Girl Tonight" As pointed out by m'colleague, Rockula., I'm a huge Bonzos fan..and any Compact Disquette by Leon Redbone Been a fan of Mr Redbone for nearly 30 years...

You start it, i'll do it! Sadly my singing voice is awful, I would murder these songs in completely the wrong fashion!. Happy to re-write lyrics and produce props, but if there is four someones out there with a decent singing voice and a bit of wit, happy to help organise, hopefully for The Asylum. Already working on the Steampunk Discotech, two gramophones, theremin, plasma globe and trying to track down suitable 78's (anyone have bonzo's on 78?) see thread Gramophone Owners Unite! And it would be nice to have a live interlude to give the Disc Joculator a break.
