I suppose I still consider Metal as falling under the "too heavy" label for my own personal enjoyment. Hell, I consider most Punk too heavy.

DAMN ! Why didn't i thought about this band earlier ? Okay, i've got something (french, once again, i'm sorry...) which is... Hem... Well, not really steampunk but it approach it many times. It's a little like the second album of Panic! At The Disco (in way better), which means it's pop-rock, sometimes a little more folk, and it's called Dionysos.

Here are some of their music videos :

L'homme Sans Trucages

Their last album is based upon a book the singer wrote. This song happen when the hero, who has a clock instead of his heart, meet a real human while going to Andalousia, a man that cheer him up to go find his love in this beautiful country.

Tais Toi Mon Coeur

The Hero want his heart to shut up, he's tired of loving.

Yeah I think someone else posted them here years ago. I remember I liked those videos.

I was going to say Dr. Steel, Mr. B and Elemental for fun steampunk bands, but I see they've already been mentioned so I'll just say "Seconded!"

Hey don't forget the Canadian band "Klaatu"

Klaatu - Sir Bodsworth Rugglesby IIIDQ

Klaatu - Sub Rosa SubwayDQ

These guys were Steampunk long before there was a word for it. They were also responsible for the sci-fi classic "Calling Occupants Of Interplanetry Craft"

They had 3 or 4 good albums and most of them had the steam there...

Surprised this band hasn't been mentioned yet: An up-and-coming steampunk band from San Diego, Steam Powered Giraffe. A very fun steampunk band.

They're very musically punk, with their steampunk aesthetic ... I rather enjoy the Extraordinary Contraptions.

This is my new favorite thing ever.

That and Steam Powered Giraffe. What a concept, and expertly executed.

I'll third or fourth or fifth Two Man Gentleman Band. I bought their album The Great Calamities two days ago and it put an instant smile on my face. Happy little ditties about the Hindenburg catastrophe, the Titanic sinking, and The War of Northern Aggression are pure brilliance.

I have to second the nomination for The Peryls, since I think they got buried a bit.  I really enjoy their bright, fun sound.

What we need is a good steampunk barbershop quartet (think Sweeney Todd) able to subvert lyrics to conventional songs in a humerous fashion, for example the wholesome American Pie, becomes decidely unwholesome in the context of the Demon Barber of Fleet Street, or the barbers solo in the Barber of Seville, " I have a finger in every pie".Please see recent postings on the Steampunk Filk thread.

Thirded.

And it's worth hunting out some of the more vaudeville offerings from the Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band.
"Hello Mabel", "Tubas in the moonlight", "Jollity Farm", "My Brother Makes The Noises For The Talkies", "I'm Going To Bring A Watermelon To My Girl Tonight"
