I know for some cameras you can get plastic casings to make them water proof. Maybe those could easily be painted and have rivets added.

Indeed they could, Atterton, and most of those water-tight shells are a bit more generic, and might not have to fit just one specific camera. Crap... am I gonna have to squeeze out one more project before dragoncon? Thanks, bub, thanks a lot!  And yes, Herr Doktor, I think trying to make these for all the various camera models out there would be a very quick road to a very small room with very soft walls. But that doesn't make the casemod any less pimp. |

Now that's an excellent plan. Many of my own makes are based on dirt cheap items from the £1 stores which Glasgow is awash with. Perhaps actually a cheap camera could be pulled apart for some of the necessary panels etc. I know what tomorrow's lunchbreak is going to be taken up with. The camera case is amazing, I was sure he had used a laser cutter (which if santa happens to be reading this, is my top want), so the fact that he has done it with a craft knife is even more staggering. How on earth do you get such perfect circles? The hatchdoor is the best bit and of course rivets improved anything. BTW I found a big copper rivet in George Square (our main city centre square) today, how weird is that? |

Cutting perfect circles in sheet material is easy, if you have one of these beauties:  The Olfa compass cutter, click on the image for more details! It's a doddle to use, and indispensable! A pair of old fashioned spring dividers with sharpened points works very well for thicker plastic and larger diameter circles. While I'm here the rivets are self adhesive 'pearls' from Hobbycraft: http://www.docrafts.co.uk/asp/products/product.asp?id=70208Not particularly cheap, but you do get several sizes in a packet.  |

wow, i have done a couple digital camera mods, i have seen plenty, but this is great,d my favorite aspect is that it encases the camera rather than gluing bits to the camera..... the whole project is a winner

Your space helmet is truly beautiful, and this camera is amazing. Your spaceship model is so breathtaking that I want one in real life. I would encourage you to share your techniques with the world.

For those with pretty much bottomless wallets, note that Datamancer is selling off some of his keyboard frames to fund his trip to Oxford. I just got an email to that effect, but I cannot justify $400 on a keyboard frame, even tho it is clearly actually an artwork.
