Willoughby,
excellent result, well done. The parts come together in a splendid and suitably scary whole.

ladies, gentlemen and scallywags, may i present to you my solar powered utility top hat.

i used the following....

3 items from a Hardware store. - three copper pipe joins
Something Red. - red satin lining
Nuts and bolts of any number and size.- small nut used as light switch
Glass. - small brown bottle
1 item from a friends house (stolen or borrowed). - chimney/reducer thingy
Child's toy. - action man compass, though not actually photographed because i forgot
2 items from a garbage. Dumpster diving or browsing the office recycle bin, both count. - glass jar and plastic pastry container
Wood. - on front of hat
5 paint colours of your choice. - brass spray paint, copper spray paint, red glass paint, yellow glass paint, black undercoat
2 types of fabric. - brown ribbon, black fleece (under lining)
Gauges of any kind. - typre pressure guage (always losing this and so useful to have on a utility hat!)
Leather. - entire hat made from leather
An item from an Antique store. - traveller inkwell
Something taken from something else. - copper pipe. used to have something to do with a boiler
3 items of your choice. - solar panel, desk lamp/fan combi, burgundy quill pen

unfortunately it has not photographed all that well, but the light on the front is actually a fairly powerful desk lamp which lights up a whole room. the brass jar lid in  front of it screws off so it is either a furnace with light shining through the glass painted front or it is an actual head light. and the chimney is the exact right diameter for an insence cone, hence the reason there is smoke coming from it! the fan is there so that on a hot day the solar panels dont fry the battery and i can take some of the power away to cool my face down! the fan is on a flexible stalk so i can get it right down in front of my face. the storage compartment inside is to hold the items being charged, because not only does the solar panel power the lights and fan, but it has 11 adapters for various phones, cameras and MP3 players. it even has an ipod adapter so you can charge practically anything from the top of this hat!

i think that's all i have to say about it for now, but i'm bound to have forgotten something so i'll come back to it later!

here we go......

unfotunately it is too bright to be photographed. or rather, i don't have the photography techniques required to capture light that brightly using only my phone!

Well here's the results of my assembly.  Something of a more feminine nature for a fancy dress ball.  Psyche's tiara.
Crafted from...
1 item from an antique store - a silver plated dish holder (that forms the base of the crown)
Leather - the leather is the liner for the crown and the back strap
Faux fur
Glass - chandelier crystal
5 colors of paint (for the butterfly wings)
1 item from a friends house -the brass butterfly
Something red - the heart brooch
3 hardware store items - two mirror holders and a roll of copper tape (which is holding the wings in place)

This is my first attempt at posting photos so I'm not quite sure what the results will be? Undecided
I also started a set of "sand goggles" created from the other half of the silver dish, but those are still on the slab.  Once they are completed I'll make sure they get posted as well.

excellent work all!
unfortunately real life reared it's ugly head and I got no further than a red fez with a pile of crap next to it.

I still need to assemble a hat to my liking, so its still on the drawing board.

kudos to everyone who got their projects done!

I am a late bloomer it would seem...please to put together another project, soon Smiley

I stand at the ready this time...really.

May I offer a suggestion as to a subject?

Rather than a raygun, something for your head, etc. perhaps offer up a part of the name and let the creators work with the name rather than an established form or function?

As an example:  "Tesla's experiment #71"  or  "X-J9" etc..

Thanks for your time and consideration.

Well... mine didn't work as planned.... I made a dust mask for Burning Man (I still have to develop the film...) But I made it too heavy, so it wouldn't stay on my face... I could probably move the straps, but I think I'll just work on something else.
