I've never been to one, but I figured they were fairly kid friendly, ie no liquor sales...

I'm just trying to encourage people to try a little more reality with their fantasy

And whay would I want to do that. I have enough reality in my everyday life. Steampunk for me is a release, a way to escape reality.  The less it has to do with the mundane and practical the better .

i think there is a fine balance, or a fine line, between the two. this depends entirely on what the individual wants from both steampunk and life in general, but in my humble opinion no-ones line is in the wrong place because it's about what works for you.

personally i like to escape into a fantasy world while keeping everything real at the same time. i only try to achieve realistic goals otherwise it just ends in disappointment, though i see no harm in those goals being based in fantasy. for example, if my fantasy world involved driving a steam train i would save up for one of those steam train driving days in the real world.
