As suggested in a different thread: http://brassgoggles.co.uk/bg-forum/index.php?topic=14283.0

I was thinking we could start a list of suppliers as an easy reference when someone is looking for a particular item.

If you know of a good online supplier, respond here with the url and a very brief description of what the site offers.  I'll compile the posts here, and organize it somehow. If we get a good list going, maybe we can convince the admin to make this a sticky thread.

Here's the list:

www.unitednuclear.com    very odd stuff, serious magnets (sorry, US Shipping only Sad)
www.alphastamps.com/collageitemsmetal.html  watch parts, findings, gears, brass tags
www.mad-salvager.squarespace.com/     steampunk things
www.sportsmansguide.com/net/sitemap/department.aspx?d=122  Military surplus department.
www.whatpriceglory.com/   Military surplus to kilts to Indiana Jones's bag to...
www.sutlers.co.uk/  Replica Uniforms & Accoutrements 1700 - 1950  and some civilian kit.
www.toddscostumes.com/indy/indiana_jones.htm  Indiana Jones stuff and  other movie replicas
www.sciplus.com/          a little bit of everything (sorry, US Shipping only  )
www.allelectronics.com/      surplus electronic components (LEDs and such)
www.gyroscope.com/    cool stuff, including sterling engines and tesla generators
www.rjleahy.com/   supplier of metal bit, good source for low quantities of rivets
www.smallparts.com  They sell brass tubing, among other useful things
www.herbach.com/   small motors, electrical components, and weather balloons
www.historicgames.com    reproduction playing cards and dice
www.nortonsalesinc.com/rocketry.html   For SERIOUS projects only - use at your own risk!
www.lamaisondabsinthe.com - Absinthe Supplies, spoons, glasses, fountains, etc.
www.dealextreme.com has some steampunk friendly items
www.replicaters.com/AIFuniforms.html    an incredible array of WWI and WWII replica uniforms
www.victoriantradingco.com    Victorian stuff - not steampunk so much. But fun
www.centerfiresystems.com/search.aspx?find=mask   gas masks. 4 for 20$--WARNING this site sells modern firearms.

Might be worth mentioning, what with this being an international community and all, that United Nuclear refuse to sell outside the United States. (More specifically, they refuse to have anything to do with international shipping or Customs clearances.)

If you live on the east coast there is a sutlers store in Gettysburg, PA. I did a little reenacting few years back and that was the place to go for authentic apparel. I still have my Shell Jacket that I bought there.

I have a local leather supplier that is just amazing! they don't have an online presence but I would be more than willing to be a go between taking pictures of items they may suggest from your inquiries and sending them out (up to 7 megapixel with an incredible macro capability if surface texture and what the pores of the skin are like is important!) I will get their phone number and address as they are so incredibly cheap and the quality so much better as well as a vastly larger array or leather items and tools as well as hardware to boot that it is worth it to buy and ship (though if you are getting something from me I can ship it most cases free since shipping has been paid or I can purchase it for you and ship through a cheaper means than UPS which is I believe their primary method of shipping.)

the place is called EC leather and they are on 6th street in Tulsa OK USA incase anyone is wondering. I will dig to learn a bit more about them so one might know more of what sort of place you would look for to find a leather supplier like them locally in you respective countries too as they are not a typical leather supplier. (30,000 square feet of shelves stuffed with so much leather you can smell the place from a block away. as I said before mmmmmm.... leather one of the  best smells in the world and no matter how they try to duplicate it there just is no substitute for the real thing.)

*edit* here is their info for anyone wanting it. I will try to take some pictures so you can see that they really mean business when it comes to leather.

This is the place I bought the copper rivets for my mask. This place offers low quantities and the service was great.

I've been pleased with the service and selection at Herbach and Rademan who deal in industrial surplus – small motors, electrical components, and weather balloons.

Thank you so much for that link! Hopefully soon enough I will be needing to use those parts on my rocket motors! Any idea of the pricing? All of the items are drool worthy!

Sorry, Rowan - I have never been to the shop, and they don't like to post prices...  you would probably have to go there yourself, or find a friend in the area to proxy for you.

Some of the smaller rocket pods gave me ideas - now just to figure out where to put the fuel, how to route the controls, and how to secure it all - to my bicycle...

 Shocked

untiednuclear.com has more equipment than it does apparel or other types of items. I liked the magnets and aerogel the most.

allelectronics.com is superb for building things!

Try making this into a car engine!

Earlier this year, I discovered the joys of McMaster-Carr.  It's basically the most well-stocked hardware store you could imagine, with decent prices and unbelievably fast shipping to boot.  Tons of brass goodies, along with every other nut, bolt, material, or fitting you could possibly want!

A couple more, potentially steam-able European military surplus; uniforms and field gear:

http://www.wephaus.com/  Some good German and Swiss things

http://www.tridentmilitary.com/  Mostly Eastern European/Warsaw Pact items.

Some are a bit pricey, collectors things, but some are really great.

Cheers!

Officially victorian military supplier http://www.thinred.co.uk/ is long closed following the death of one it's founders. Unofficially they're still selling off the remaining stock, so not sure what they've got as the website hasn't been updated in ages. But you never know what might be lurking, just waiting to go to a new home...

These people make an incredible array of WWI and WWII replica uniforms. Very reasonably priced (IMO) and they guarentee to deliver anywhere in the world  and all prices include P&P...
