I will be buying some old (possibly broken) pocketwatches soon, I hope to use the cogs and mechanisms for some steampunk jewellery or basic modding. I was wondering whether you guys could give me any tips so I don't go breaking bits of the watches.

I don't have many tools available, its mainly things I kept from my modelling days (clippers, stanley knife etc.)

Oh and would a soldering iron be suitable for fastening the cogs to things?
