Right, I have now infiltrated the environs of Lincoln and will be on the ground for the next couple of days. Met stiff local hospitality at the County Show and was forced to eat lovely lovely pies and drink beer. Will be surveying crinoline and bustle friendly promenade routes on Friday as parts of the street plan around the Bail and the historic parts of town are positively medieval and there's a distinct concentration of topography. If there's anything else that needs doing with boots on the ground... Oh no they've got sausages...

dont let it distract you....!!!

Note to self: do not forget to make sure there are tea rooms and places to eat on routes. Lincoln is foodie heaven.

There are three or four along Steep Hill, and a great coffee/tea shop off the High Street near the larger Waterstones.  Or, at least, there were when I was living there until a year ago.

Persons intending to travel by open carriage should select a seat with their backs to the engine, by which means they will avoid the ashes emitted therefrom, that in travelling generally, but particularly through the tunnels, prove a great annoyance; the carriage farthest from the engine will in consequence be found the most desirable.

Sherlock's, up on Flowergate, just beside Baxtergate (go past the shop shop, take a left and walk up the hill to where the upper entrance of Woolworth's used to be, keep walking up that street and it'll be on your right).

There we go, search over. ^_^

I have the good fortune to be from Whitby by ancestry - the bulk of my family live there, so I visit several times a year, or at the very least whenever I'm able.  There is nothing in this world like sitting on the cliffs at midnight hearing the north sea lap against the beautiful coastline.
I'm assuming you're travelling up there for the Goth Weekend?

sadly no we cannot afford both weekends each year now, not with so many other wonderful events such as Asylum going on, so weve chosen to only do April as its warmer, less busy and sunnier.

Oh gosh! I do hope they have Rose Pouchong, I am shockingly addicted to it after the unfortunate affair with the  palace garden and the stampeding elephants.

Actually, my dear Miss Emily, I think we do know of one group of people that don't take tea and cake as a matter of life and death...

...it's MUCH MORE IMPORTANT THAN THAT!

Ah, Herr Doktor, you are referring of course to the dear "Comapany", One of whom was heard to happily utter "ooh muffins!" at the sight of a large platefull, despite his fiancee's kidnap, in front of his very eyes, moments before.... ah happy days. Seen anything of Flinders Petrie recently?

The Major and I can highly recommend Stokes Tea and coffee shop on the High Bridge, Lincoln. Very friendly people. Their afternoon tea is a real treat as it their 16th cent shop and cafe. The cakes are served on proper old fashioned cake stands that are so pretty. Please do visit them as they are supporting our event. yours Lady Elsie.
