The Contessa and I, along with other members of Steampunk Ottawa ran a panel on steampunk at this year's Naru 2 U http://www.naru2u.com/ a local anime convention. We had a good time, handed out lot's of business cards, drew some steampunks out of the woodwork and made a few converts. Pretty good work for a small con. Items of note: - Were were able to emphasize the cross over between Steampunk and anime because of the discussions here. Thank you ladies and gentlemen of Brass Goggles
- Lots of cross over between Steampunk and Loilita - a promising new recruiting ground
- Steam Renaissance - a whole new avenue for exploration. Consider Venetian galleys with feather oars under brightly coloured silken envelopes all boiler powered.
- The business cards were a hit. Just our name and logo, FB group and gmail address. One vendor said she had never seen a group so organized as to have calling cards.
- Around 10 new group members and climbing
- Being asked if we were going to enter the costume competition because our costumes were so good (I was just riding on the Contessa's train of course)
- Many many pictures ake of SP Ottawa people - spreading the word visually
- New projects - steaming giant robot kits.
A good time was had by all.

Steampunk is in the eye of the beholder, in the hands of the tinkerer and in the needle of the costumer.

For your edification, here are the links to our next two upcoming events in Ottawa - we would love for you to join us Steampunk Ottawa Expedition to our local Museum of Nature Steampunk Ottawa excursion to the OGS Yule Ball You'll definitely see me at the Museum Expedition. =) I can't wait and neither can my girlfriend. As for the Yule Ball, it will be such a pleasure to see fellow Steampunks attending. I'll try and whip up some truly memorable music for the night's festivities!

It's been a long time since I've posted on this thread....oops. Steampunk Ottawa has been very busy. There are many more people putting on the events and taking care of members. It's like a growing Cuthulhu. There have been picnics, movie nights and a recent swap meet. We had a lovely first anniversary party in April and a fabulous science fair in June. We have many more events coming up this year including a cocktail party, more picnics and an afternoon tea (and meeting) to discuss what fun we'll have in 2011. http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=136778939686394

This month we have an upcoming picnic at the Museum of Science and Technology amongst their steam trains on Saturday, September 11 and a tea and meeting on Sunday, September 19, but our most fun will be had here: We are taking to the open road and going to Fort Fright for some historical and ghoulish fun. So pack up your vehicle with your favourite steampunks and join us on Saturday, September 25th. We will be leaving at approximately 1:00 pm and returning at 10:00 p.m. Cost is $10.00 per person or $8.00 per person for a group of over 20 people. Departure time is tentative at the moment. Once again dress is encouraged but not mandatory. For more information http://www.fortfright.com/index.htmFor updates on this fun outing go to our event page on Facebook http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=150408694980720

We had a wonderful tea and a great meeting today. We had quite a large number of people for this event. Many brought fantastic treats to share. Many more had some fabulous ideas for 2011 Steampunk Ottawa events. A big thanks goes out to everyone and in particular, those who have volunteered to co-ordinate events.

We are having a steampunk Halloween carving contest! Diana Vick called it making "steampunkins". Carve your best steampunk design into your pumpkin this year and post a photo of it in the group photo section to be judged at the end of the month! Judging will be open to the whole Steampunk Ottawa group through a poll and the winner will get a surprise Halloween-themed prize. More information can be found here http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=100517986680122

It's been a while since I've mentioned this, but Steampunk Ottawa is still going strong, is very busy and having monthly events (sometimes more than one). Come on out, we'd love to have you join us. As Facebook has been quite silly lately, be sure to watch for our events on the Steampunk Canada calendar. http://www.steampunkcanada.ca/apps/calendar/
