I've listed the donors from our fund drive at the various levels.  I apologize that this took so long to get done!

If you chose not to share your information when you donated through Amazon, then obviously you are not listed.  There were quite a number of anonymous donations, and we thank you for your support!

There are also a couple of people who donated and shared their information, but did not donate at least $10.  We haven't thanked you in the Roll of Honour as a result, but please know that your contributions were and are appreciated!

Those of you looking for a donation link will note that it is gone: Amazon has removed the "Honor System" service that provided an easy way to accept donations.  We are looking at other sources for donations, and a way to better track and reward those who donate, as well as an easier way to report on how the money is spent.

With the money donated, we paid migration and set up fees for a very nice hosting package that will carry us through November of 2009; and we have $158.71 US left, which could pay for about 4 more months of hosting at current levels (the more hosting we buy at once, the cheaper each month is).

Thanks again for being a financial supporter of the Steampunk Forum at BrassGoggles.

Alas, PayPal was considered and rejected on the grounds that their donation policy requires us to be a 501(c)(3) organization (which is a fair bit of work and expense to create, and would be US-only; the Founders are in the UK).  Even were that not the case, PayPal is unusually problematic for many international users.

Amazon is offering a replacement service to the "Honor System", but its terms are legalese-ridden.  An attorney friend has pledged to review them and offer an opinion for me, but must do so in her coveted spare time.

I'm certainly open to other suggestions.

Could one not just pay whatever PayPal account was set up? Certainly on PayPal in the UK, there's an option to send money in payment for non-physical goods, which is in effect what the donations would be paying for?

Yes, this can be done. However, it has tax implications for whomever receives the money.  This is essentially what was done with Amazon for our fund drive - I had to claim those donations on my income tax.

In any case, now that BG will be funded for a solid two years, it's not something we'll have to worry about again for some time.

Ladies, Gentlemen, et al,

Thank you, really...but I think the creation of the donor category of Baron is sufficient recognition. I do not desire any further "rank" or "title" acknowledgments..I much prefer to let my posts stand on their own merit, rather than to receive approbation for merely donating funds, something which I think everyone who enjoys these boards should do. If my situation is such that I can afford to make a somewhat larger than average donation, what of it? We all of us do what we can...some in one capacity, some in another. The real heroes are those such as the good Mr. Proteus, who labor tirelessly behind the scenes to keep our beloved Forum running smoothly.

Besides that, I already had to buy a new coat and hat to "live up" to the title of Baron...heh.

Sincerely Yours,

The Rt. Hon. Thos. E. Thistlewaite, Baron Luxborough, Sgt. Maj.HMRHM, ret. (signature already too long!)
