The first thing that one ought to know about an Idler is that he* is not a bystander.

Opting out is a full-time activity. When the Civil Unionist is being maimed by machinery or mauled by marauding monsters for bystanding, the Idler will be at home playing cricket with a rolled-up ball of paper or navigating quiet waterways in a boat. The Idler will be first in the queue at the wake of the fearless adventurer or hapless engineer, piling cucumber sandwiches onto Royal Worcester with reckless abandon and a joyful disregard for propriety.

Because of the Idler's commitment to Idling, velvet is considered practical.

*Or, indeed, she, for we live in stirring times.

While I would love to join this society, I just can't summon up the energy.

The Chap manifesto seems fit us Idlers nicely.

Quote
It is time for Chaps and Chapettes from all walks of life to stand up and be counted. But fear not, ye languid and ye plain idle: ours is a revolution based not on getting up early and exerting oneself - but a revolution that can be achieved by a single raised eyebrow over a monocle; the ordering of a glass of port in All Bar One; the wearing of a particularly fetching cardigan upon a visit to one's bookmaker. In other words: a revolution of panache. We shall bewilder the masses with seams in our trousers that could cut paper, trilbies angled so rakishly that traffic comes to a standstill; and by refusing the bland, watery substances that are foisted upon us by faceless corporations, we shall bring the establishment to its knees, begging for sartorial advice and a nip from our hip flasks.

Quite so...''Procrastinators unite!...Tomorrow!'' And all that jazz.  Though that would require the energy to put tasks off, instead of just never planning on doing them...ever.

Why put off doing what you can have someone else put off doing for you?

Slacker work ethics by Futurama:

Quote
Leela: "Fry, we have a crate to deliver."
Fry: "Well, let's just dump it in the sewer and say we delivered it."
Bender: "Too much work. Let's burn it and say we dumped it in the sewer."

Do they still publish The Idler magazine?

Alex James from blur used to write for it.

I'd Google it to check... but I can't be arsed.

I believe I've heard of this club and do think I'd be a perfect member, but this couch I'm reclining on is currently reaching the very heights of comfort and so I think I shall simply remain here for the time being.

Perhaps another time then, eh
