Excellent! Not ten miles from our place of habitation!  Smiley

On a sadder note - It seems that Isaac Bonewits died on August 12 this year. A wonderful writer of sense; his 'Real Magic' was a light shining in the darkness (of the many awful tomes which were around at that time)

Rosemary Ellen Guiley's bio of Isaac is here,
and you will find some of his essays tucked
away in the Archives of Ár nDraíocht Féin
( "A Druid Fellowship").

See you soon, Isaac!

oooo.. this is something.  I discovered Bonewits book very early in my exploration of mystic things and it really helped.  I avoided so many traps do to the knowledge that Bonewits shared.

I think it is because we are trying to arrange a Philosophical Rendezvous at the Asylum weekend (probably Saturday evening, venue tbc).

It's a good idea, as people attending the Asylum will hopefully see this and consider coming along!

I was going to open a new thread in Geog to promote it, but Sir Nicholas has pipped me to the post...

I'm sure it will be moved back afterwards?

Heavens...if anything belongs in a category called "metaphysical", surely this is it...

*curtsies belatedly*  I have not properly introduced myself.  I'm busy lurking in an occultish thread at 1:43 a.m., local time, waning moon, rats all astir in the background...

I would consider myself more of a tourist than a member...I follow Jesus (don't shoot!) and (please don't shoot!) don't think that mixes well with occultish sort of things...but things of the nature we discuss here have a tendency to intrude on the lives of even the unwilling, do they not?  (Especially fae creatures...nasty little...I mean, we love faeries!  Huzzah for the Goode Neighbours!  Grin )

A pair of "fortune tellers" at a Renaissance Faire once prevailed upon me to draw just one card on a very slow day.  I said I had no need of their information.  Nevertheless, and with no instruction, I hovered my hand over the cards until I felt one...well, the one I should draw.  The card I drew said "Serenity".  The poor little fortune teller blinked in dismay, seeing that the cards had told her I had no need of their information. =P  She then proceeded to make something up.  Oh well.

My fondest (read "only fond") memory of working for Old Navy was my last day.  I had picked up a display of sunglasses and arranged the wares neatly on the rack perhaps 200 times in the course of my rather brief shift.  On my way out the door for the last time, no one was around it, and everything was in order.  I thought giddily, "if I have to pick up that pair of sunglasses ONE MORE TIME...", and pointed at it, at which point it shot off the rack and landed three to five feet away from said rack.  I laughed and picked it up one more time.

My own mother had trouble with poltergeistiness in her tender years...how did Victorians explain the fascinating occurrences that sometimes follow angsty teenagers about?

And in my mad ramblings, now that it's 2:25 and I still haven't caught up with this thread, I must reply to this:
Quote
I'm not at all sure what you do about gremlins.
I haven't been bothered by computer gremlins since I've been routinely taking apart old clocks and having bits of them fly about the room and disappear.  I just cleaned, and didn't find any of them.  Well, a couple plastic bits, but who wants those?

I can promise you that ( within the bounds of our
little Sanctum, anyway ) there will be no gunplay,
hanging, burning, defenestration, exsanguination,
flensing with potsherds, or any other species of
violence done to your person (or that of anyone
else, for that matter).

The rate of attrition in our little group, with
regard to both visitors as well as members, is
actually vanishingly small  Wink

"There is of course only one way to look after anything,
and that is to give it its proper food and motions. And
the divine motions that are akin to the divine in us are
the thoughts and revolutions of the universe.

We should each therefore attend to these motions and,
by learning about the harmonious circuits of the universe,
repair the damage done at birth to the circuits in our head,
and so restore understanding and what is understood to
their original likeness to each other.

When that is done we shall have achieved the goal set us
by the Gods, the life that is best for this present time and
for all time to come."

It's now looking like it will be at the Lion and Snake on Saturday evening (time tbc)

I have added a poll to my 'Steampunk Spirituality' thread to try and estimate the number of attendees to the Philosophical Rendezvous. If you are interested, could you vote/RSVP please?

Many thanks

Hmmm......I want to make my own replica of a mesmerist's wand, but the only reference anyone can find is a lilac wand with a yellow cape, or visa versa...... :/

Interesting. Presumably the lilac/yellow combo is to produce an optical flashing effect (as they are opposite colours). Doesn't Regardie mention something about that in 'how to make & use talismans'?

The technique for 'flashing' colours is a part of
the original documents edited by Regardie :

The Golden Dawn: A Complete Course in Practical Ceremonial Magic
by Francis Israel Regardie, page 479,
"Talismans",
'The Formation of Talismans and Flashing Tablets'.
